I mean, they basically stated a null hypothesis. If you want it stated accurately in common parlance we have no evidence that there are environmental causes of autism.

The best I've heard is maybe there's some kind of link between the gut biome and mental health, but the last I read about it, it was very tenuous and needed a lot of experimentation.

Isn't that the point of research program? When I was young, people believed that the cause of stomach ulcers was stress. Now we know it is commonly H pylori bacteria.

I don't disagree with that, we do basic and applied science for good reason, even where it looks like we have solid answers. I replied because I read the comment to imply that there are causes and/or asking for proof of a negative.
