Those numbers came from the Social Security database. Are you saying we have fake people that could possibly be receiving SSI? What they need to do is reconcile those with the Treasury payments system to see if money is actually being paid out or not.
It’s not fake people; it’s people who died and are no longer receiving benefits but whose names have not been removed from the system because SS admin does not have the staff to do it.

I think there was a misunderstanding of your first reply. Apologies if that’s the case. But the facts provided in response are factual (for the most part) and the fact they just started is part of the point: they are tearing things apart/down without understanding the consequences.
I could be wrong, but I think they're taking a zero-based budgeting approach to many agencies in the government. To be doing it on a grand scale like that is going to be shocking to a lot of people, but it might be the best approach we've got right now toward ever balancing our budget.
