I masked for quite some time and then it just stopped. People were sick of it I guess. I always carried one around just in case it was required though, but that is a thing of the past now.

I still mask, as recommended by my physician, when transmission rates go up. I am considered at very high risk (think asthma). Or when I feel under the weather. To protect others It’s not politicized in Canada the same way as the US so I feel safe. Hospital workers, etc mask all the time as well

I don't even hear about transmission rates here. I've got asthma as well. Doctors and hospitals no longer require, or use, them from what I've seen recently. It's probably due to fatigue from the last few years, but who knows really.

To me that sounds scary. One of my best friends works in pediatrics and she wears her specially fitted N95 all day at work, regardless of transmission rates. Because she works with sick children. I sometimes feel like the decision became political rather than evidence based in the US…

Politics played a part for sure. There's also the Cochrane Review which said they didn't make a difference and even Fauci admitted it as well. Ultimately the majority of people did not wear N95s so masking really was kind of pointless with the cloth masks which most wore and barely washed. Gross.

I only bought N95 and tried to fit them properly as best I could, but they certainly weren't perfect. I also saw so many people only wearing to cover their mouths. I just have to laugh at that. And we have to wonder why they just weren't effective.

I was always told the masks were to protect others not yourself. I guess that is A hard sell for some. It keeps my mucus to myself. It’s a non issue though if you don’t have compliance. Then it isn’t an effective method. Period I also found this www.factcheck.org/2023/03/scic...

I was originally going to like this and this image, but thought the video was better since it had Fauci in it as well.

Yes. I remember the last time I had to go to emergency for breathing issues ppl were taking their masks off to cough. They are hard to fit without professional help. In my case I am also sensitive to smoke, etc and it just helps to have that layer filtering the air.

Same. I can smell smoke a couple blocks away in the winter and it makes me start coughing right away.

In case it’s helpful I recently worked with a speech language pathologist on cough suppression and breathing techniques and it helped. They train singers, etc Had never thought of it but they also know a lot about breathing!

Mine happens very seldom. I use an inhaler maybe once or twice a year, if even. So I'm pretty lucky in that sense. My friend actually trains singers too so I might ask him about those techniques. Thanks for the tip!

Lucky you. I have lots of triggers. And with the air quality going down it’s worse I was just happy to discover another specialist who could help.
