Watched ROGUE ONE with my wife today. We had a ball. Wish I'd seen it in a theater. It has what so many action pictures lack: a beating heart.
Watched ROGUE ONE with my wife today. We had a ball. Wish I'd seen it in a theater. It has what so many action pictures lack: a beating heart.
I went to see Rogue One when it was in the cinema, and it was an absolute joy (and also a completely devastating heartbreak) to watch. I'm sure you'd have loved it, it was a spectacle! And also, just a great story, even if it *was* just made to fill in a plot hole; it was worth it!
Endlessly amazing
Agree, Rogue One and Andor is the best Star Wars.
Some heroes sacrifice themselves for the greater good. Rare these days as people seek wealth and power for themselves with no empathy for the others.
Seeing A New Hope in the cinema in 1977 was unforgettable. Unquestionably my fave Star Wars for decades, but Rogue One surpasses it for me and Andor was beautifully done.
You saw "Star Wars" in the cinema in 1977. It was never called "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" until Lucas visually ruined it and renamed it.
It’s the second best SW movie.
I join in the choir to urge as many as possible to give Andor a try. Especially if R1 got curiosity going.
youtu.be/NmX4zk5yAUs?...
Rogue One is probably the best Star Wars movie since the original trilogy. If you take off the nostalgia glasses, it might be the best ‘Star Wars’ movie.
It wasn't easy to admit because of those nostalgia glasses, but I came to the same conclusion. And now if I had to choose, I'd say the show is my favorite of all. I love Rogue One, but Andor has almost everything that makes it great...and more of it. (Rogue One does have that ending.)
Now watch Andor.
In my opinion, it's hands down the single best Star Wars movie.
If you haven't watched the Rogue One prequel series ANDOR, do yourself a favor and start it ASAP.
Sadly, the character development in that movie is rather lacking.
The BBC show Red dwarf?
👍
Oh wow. In my opinion the best Star Wars movie in the franchise. Tight story and good acting. And the intro to Cassian Andor.
If you watch Andor then Rogue One then A New Hope its very cool as it follows the story of the destruction of the Death Star 😉
Hot take, but the best Star Wars media are the ones that don’t involve the Force.
That is the only good Star Wars MOVIE to come out of Disney.
Watch Andor.
The best Star Wars movie of our time.
I actually think it’s the best of all the films (after Return of the Jedi).
IMO the best thing that came out of Disney re-booting SW
It was good…..
Best of the new Star Wars movies by a galaxy far far away.
Did you see Andor you Mr.King?
Absolutely
Watch all of Andor, both seasons, then Rogue One, then STar Wars it all happens one after the other after the other Andor means the MOST
Agreed Andor is amazing work.
Ho yes. Andor carries such power when you know what lies ahead. Watched Rogue One the same night I finished Andor, hit hard. That first scene with Cassian… that kill means so much more now that we've seen who he really is, what he had to do, what he been through. Best Star Wars character, by far.
youth losing a sister jail 2x murder on the run armed robbery imprisoned for no crime jail break rescue scavenging and this is before ROgue One! This was long overdue where we thought all characters had the force or were lightsabers, there were scrappers as well He is not Han; Han is the 2nd Andor
Seen Weapons yet?
I loved Rogue One. I always wondered about the brave souls.
One of my favorite movies!! I watch it quite often.
A masterclass in world-building and storytelling. Easily my favorite Star Wars out of all of them.
Good for you. Loved the Andor series as well..
Have you ever watched Harlin County USA? On YouTube. Academy award for best documentary 1977. You will not be disappointed.
My favourite Star Wars movie, and I did see it in the theater.
I saw in the cinema and immediately thought it was one of the best SW movies ever. It had the the heart of A New Hope. It was SW for adults with minimal Jedi or Sith nonsense. Andor then took this and created one of the best TV series I’ve seen.
What took you soooo long??
Andor (the follow up) tells stories that science fiction hasn't told for a long time. Reminds me a lot of what Blakes 7 would be like with a proper budget.
Andor series is even better!
And *writers who have clearly read other good writers*.
So many have said that they were happy to revisit the Star Wars Universe without having to deal with the Skywalker family.
Rebellions are built on hope.
Arguably the best Star Wars movie of all time.
Yes Andor is a worthy follow up. I liked season one better than season 2 but both are worth watching.
What I just did on my summer vacation: Took a thrill ride reading the Hodges/Holly series in order Thank you! You know how to give a girl a good vacation!
Despite the modern visuals, it still ‘felt’ like it was made in 1982. Extraordinary achievement. Also - it was released NINE years ago. 😬
Yeah sincerely a damn good movie
Right before I went into the theater to see watch it, I saw a news alert that Carrie Fisher had collapsed, so the movie will always be linked to her in my memory.
Awesome!! Anyone up for a bit of a different classic title? open.substack.com/pub/noelkeit...
So are you going to watch Andor next?
To this day, Rogue One is the only movie my family actually predicted the ending of correctly lmao (the joke is that when one of us asks what happens someone else responds 'they all died and victory triumphed')
(is the joke that that’s ALWAYS the prediction? just checking if I’m loling correctly)
Yes it is lol
I love that 😂 I can’t imagine seeing it and being like ‘…wait…’
I actually was on the fence and still feel on the fence about rogue one. It was a good movie with good characters but I felt the concept was better than execution. All of the supporting characters felt more interesting than the main (jyn) and that was kinda disappointing.
May be the best Star Wars movie now too....
Its highly underrated.
Pearls, before swine.
Andor 💯
It's the best Star Wars movie from a film theory point of view.
@garywhitta.com you’ve impressed the King
Best Star Wars film of the Disney era by far.
Unequivocally agree.
LOL!
Its true, what else comes even close?
I get that you're kidding, but some people might not realize that you're praising a movie with no plot, terrible script, and non-existent acting.
You're just a hater, Rogue One is the best Star Wars movie in the last decade. Not my fault if you dont understand the context of the movie and how it fits in the overall Star Wars plot.
And here we see, in a nutshell, the end result of mercury poisoning.
The end result of mercury poisoning is death... but nice try dumb fuck.
compelling argument you got there
You happened upon a MAGAt troll who was following me around.
"a MAGAT troll" because they liked a Star Wars movie? Strange, I didn't know liking movies about rebelling against fascist regimes made someone a MAGAT troll.
No, he was just spam replying to other threads of mine.
Huh, interesting. I found it to have an engaging plot, a good script, and great acting. To say nothing of a sincere heart at the centre of it. Maybe it just wasn't your cup of tea and that's okay. If you want us to praise you for having superior standards, you shouldn't NEED validation for that.
What’s the best Star Wars movie in your opinion?
Arguably the only good Star Wars film in the Disney era.
Solo was ok.
That's the thing. It was "ok." Star Wars is supposed to be AWESOME.
We got some awesome John Powell music out of it at the very least. Real fun for driving.
I liked Lando and L3 a lot.
And K-2SO. Alan Tudyk made him a joy to listen to.
Everything about Rogue One was pure art. Someone dropped a "Solo" comment, earlier. Solo was just okay. Which is a shame, because it was the one I was most excited for. Both films had amazing moments - but Rogue One made every moment amazing.
Yeah I really like Solo as a fun space cowboy movie with the John Powell score blasting away. It's an easier one to approach. But for me Rogue One feels more solid and hard-hitting. (And I can actually see what's going on in the dark scenes)
I'm a big fan of Ron Howard's directing skills. Sadly, he only had that script to work from and had to pick up another director's mess. That's hard work; that the film came out as good as it did is amazing, in and of itself.
It’s annoying that the planned Solo trilogy was axed. Especially when that Darth Maul angle was dropped right at the end.
Wow, I'm an idiot! He was in Rogue One my bad
It's a confusing thread. Lots of good thoughts, expressing.
I wish we'd get a sequel. I wanna know what happens with those secret weapon plans.
If you enjoyed Rogue One I think you'd love Andor 🙂
If you enjoyed Andor and Rogue One, I think you'd love Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
I liked Rogue One. Finding it hard to get into Andor.
Gave up on Andor after three or four episodes. I just found it boring.
Remember, they were planning on a few more seasons so the first season storylines were intentionally drawn out. Then they decided to cut it all short and condensed 3 seasons into one.
Typical Disney mismanagement
Admittedly, the first four were a bit on the slow side. Watch five and six and you’ll be right back on board wanting more.
Good to hear. I will persevere.
It’s well worth sticking with, last three episodes make it worth the effort
Great, thanks for this.
Andor is hands down the best thing Disney has done with the franchise. Stick with it.
It's absolutely the best of all the Disney era Star Wars movies.
Now watch Andor season 1 & 2 And Rogue One hits different
like a stupid action movie with disconnected logic of events, of course the movie is great, there's nothing to argue about, but if they tried to connect it to part 4 of Star Wars, I would kill the screenwriters for their work.
Why you don't have a home theater that rivals most small cinemas kinda baffles me.
Great flick up to the very end.
Rogue One is awesome! Surprised you are just seeing it now.
Putting aside my nostalgic love for Episodes 4-6 (and Han Solo), Rogue One truly is the best Star Wars movie. It makes me so happy that the KING loved it too. 😁
It was so good.
Did you cry ? I sobbed😭
Will check it our
Even all the reshoots and last minute edits (which you'd not even clock most of, on first viewing), couldn't wreck it.
You gotta watch Andor on Disney+ next. If you liked rogue one you will love it
Next on my list also
I’ll confidently say that season 2 is the best season of a tv series I’ve ever seen and may ever see. It’s perfection from start to finish
Okay. Thanks
Next, queue up Andor, the brilliant prequel.
Yeah, watch Andor after that, it's the only Star Wars TV show that's not... boring fan-service slop that doesn't dare try anything that would make the Star Wars IP actually go somewhere.
Best Star Wars movie since Empire, far and away
It really rips at your heart! 💔
We saw it at the cinema; the best stand-out SW movie by far. 10/10.
Watch Andor. Excellent.
I was lucky enough to have seen it in theaters, and it definitely made me remember why I loved watching the original movies as a kid #rougeone #starwars
I did see it on the big screen and enjoyed it. My response to being asked about the "excessive violence" that some were complaining about was that the franchise is Star WARS (not Peace) and the violence was appropriate to the story.
ANDOR on Disney+ is also awesome. Give that a try as well. Big fan of your work and work ethic. I heard 11 pages a day? Epic.
I’m struggling with season 2, I’m either bored by the politics or triggered by the rape scenes. Someone better do something interesting in episode 6 or I’m bailing.
Oppression breeds rebellion - Luthen Rael.
Hang in there.
Loved it!
I saw this - completely unspoiled including with regard to certain unexpected cameos - in a theater the day after a certain actor's death. It hit hard. I was not ready.
who doesn't love a space heist?
It's the absolute best of Star Wars, along with Andor
After Empire, it's the best movie in the franchise, IMO.
Sounds like the perfect excuse to convince the wife you need to refurbish a room as a proper home theater. :)
i thought it was good the first time, but second time, i thought it was pretty corny
Darth Vader at his most intimidating.
The best star wars film ever made IMO
So good. The only good film from the Disney Star Wars era.
Now watch Andor!!! It is really incredible!
First, watch the AndOrs. Then, watch ROGUE ONE. All the planetary names come into sync. The riot scene on Ferrix—I think, is one of the best-filmed action sequences in recent memory. ROGUE ONE is “far, far away” the best Star Wars film. Nothing else comes close.
Too close too our reality Overwhelmed by the authoritarian imperial likeness to Trump administration Russia and Israel.
One word: Andor
Rogue One is the best thing Disney did with Star Wars. It. Is. So. Good. People didn't like it because they "knew the ending already." But you didn't know the story!!! I think knowing the ending and what happens makes it better.
I saw it in the theatre with my then early 20s son. When the inevitable starting happening, I looked at him in horror and he said to me ever-so-gently, "Mom, you didn't think any of them survived, did you?"
I'm not a 'fan' of Star Wars. I'll watch it and enjoy it, but not rave over it. But Rogue One was the exception. Great Storyline. They could have left out the Vader/Leia scenes, and it would have had a perfect ending - even before adding those bits on.
Now go watch Andor:)
... until the end when everyone died.
I bet their hearts were beating REALLY quickly right up into the point where they were incinerated.
Somewhere in the galaxy is Andor's force ghost heart just beat-beat-beating.
Haunting Mon Mothma. ...Mon Motma?
It screens on one of the best big screens in the USA this September. www.siff.net/programs-and...
@starwarsminute.bsky.social
Normalize calling movies “pictures”
Anyone who can watch the blind resistance fighter make his way through the fray to the switch he HAS to throw at the end, without crying... has no soul.
My wife, daughter, and I did the whole thing, watched Andor and when it ended we watched Rogue One the next night and the next night, the original Star Wars.
It was the Star Wars prequel I never knew I needed.
That is probably my favorite Star Wars movie, thought it was great 🔥
Great Star Wars movie. Andor the series sets it up perfectly for this film
I am one with the Force, the Force is with me.
We dont give a shit what a pedophile defender thinks. Crack headed ass motherfucker.
Haven't had the pleasure, however; I'm a fan of evocative film productions. Especially things that don't rely solely on AI. I've sobbed watching some things that others would've dismissed as inevitable. Realness, is recognizable. -Twitchingdeadgirl
Andor too
You're wrong. Rogue One was terrible. There was nothing redeeming about it.
My chefhubby took me to see it with no warning and now I call it "Les Miserables In Space" because everybody dies snd you're sobbing but also it's so noble and beautiful.
why was it called that? was there a rogue two?
Honestly, just the fact that seeing it in theatres... and there WAS no traditional Star Wars opening crawl... that set the tone right there.
Did you watch ANDOR beforehand?
Agreed. It’s a wonderful to feel that invested in a story.
Right at the cutting edge there, Stephen! The best Star Wars film after Empire, and the start of the best Star Wars story, period.
Will check it out
It’s great choice
What kept you! :)
Same
Now watch the TV show, it hits hard in today's world
My favourite Star Wars film!
Please please please say you’ve watched Andor.
I haven't lol
Not without its faults, but I agree. I saw on my screen not the big one but it was actually an engaging story and good film. Diego (if I recall his name correctly) was very into the character and he played well on film. Good work from the rest too.👏🏼
Will check it out
I saw it in cinema. There was a lot of hatred toward it at first.
now watch Andor!
My only gripe is that THAT moment at the end should have been Darth Vader's only appearance.
We saw it in the theater shortly after Trump won the first time and Fisher died and let me tell you, the EMOTIONS in that audience... 💗
That’s my favorite of all the Disney products.
The last act is particularly good.
I'm glad you enjoyed. I can't watch any post-1977 Star Wars, myself.
The first time I saw Rouge One, I gave up after maybe 30 minutes. But after watching Andor, I saw it again, and enjoyed it. Only wish they had made it after Andor, it could have been so much better
Watch Andor and then watch it again, it gets even better.
I like to think this is the only Star Wars film that George Lucas could watch and enjoy, as an audience member. I doubt he emotionally bonded with the sequel trilogy.
K-2SO is my hero.
Best Star Wars film by far.
Wait until you see Andor.
We went right from the final episode of Andor into Rogue One. I saw it before years ago, but between the back story of the characters and the parallels to where we are now… it gutted me this time 😭
Rogue One is in my top 3 Star Wars movies. Might be top 2 actually
Definitely watch both seasons of Andor. I think you’ll love it. For me it’s the best Star Wars ever made.
It’s my favorite of the Disney era Star Wars movies. Seeing it in the theater shortly after the passing of Carrie Fisher broke me. Still need to watch Andor.
I quite liked the tribute they did for her. Similar to how they did the tribute for Leonard Nimoy in Star Trek
Also to add: my favorite star from The Expanse played the captain that presented it to Spock. Shoreh Aghdashloo
Everyone is saying watch Andor, but you really need to immediately watch the original Star Wars (or "A New Hope") right afterward. Meshes seamlessly and hightens the tension.
Also watched it last night with my wife funnily enough. After watching Andor season 2. One of the few good Star Wars sequels
I rewatched it yesterday … it never disappoints even after many views .
They got so much right. Apart from everything with Donnie Yen, there the jerky animation of the Scout Walker that reminds us of the stop motion from Jedi and the plans complete with the dish on the wrong location, just like in Star Wars.
Oh glob why did you start up the Rogue One/Andor circle jerk?
I saw Rogue One in the theater.. it was amazing but crushed me💔 Andor season one and two brought so much depth to the Cassian character .. you must watch Stephen ..
Watch Andor now, excellent show
It's by a long way my favourite of the many spin offs.
The original Star Wars movie was the hands down best. Rogue One was a VERY close second. Amazing movie.
So good
It was weird to rewatch it after having watched 2 full seasons of Andor. Tonally it’s so different and the hugging at the end felt so off compared to the love interest in the series. Despite that Rogue One still one of the best.
My fave in the entire saga.
I affectionately refer to Rogue One as Episode 3 & 7/8, because of the way it ends just as Episode 4 begins.
The best of the latter-day movies
We watched Andor then slipped right into Rogue One. So perfectly done
Excellent flick.
Try Andor next
It hits even harder after seeing Andor seasons 1 & 2 🥺❤️
I know. Easily the best of the post Lucas star wars films.
I would argue it's better than all but one Lucas-era films. Maybe two.
By far, my favorite Star Wars movie...
Now Andor.
It's one of my favorite Star Wars stories yet. And it shows exactly how they got the plans for the Death Star, leading up to Luke and co to destroying it.
Totally agree! Great series!! Seemed to be created specifically for today
One of the best from the franchise.
Now go see Andor... The best thing to come out of Star wars!
Watch all of Andor, then come back and watch Rogue One again.
Couldn't agree more. On their own they are great but watching in the timeline order was a whole new experience.
Agreed. Never thought I would be crying watching a Star Wars show.
So good, but the way they tied directly in Rogue One… perfect. The second of hesitation when Andor realizes that K-2SO is disabled but salvageable, and asks help to pick it up: that’s what fan service should be about.
I like how cassian turned into a shoot first guy as a shout out to Han Solo. Subtle but quality writing.
It's a great movie.
Now watch Andor, then watch Rogue One again. Puts it in a whole new (albeit heartbreaking and bittersweet) prospective.
Well, except for everyone on Jedha.
Yes! And the show ANDOR is two seasons of episodes telling the prequel to Rogue One and it's so good! All about the resistance against the Empire in its early stages
It’s the best Star Wars film by a wide margin.
Not in an Edgar Allen Poe way, either.
It’s so great
Curious if you have seen “Weapons” yet and your thoughts?
We did and I can't describe how mental it was when that saber came out of the darkness.
How long did it beat?
Have you watched Andor season 1 & 2?
Nope
Watch it!
It was an awesome movie!
It’s one of the best Star Wars movies.
Andor changes that film substantially in context
Set up a projector on a sailboat. The tiny things will be really important as Americans struggle.
Agreed. It was twice as satisfying as I expected. It actually had some compassionate elements.
It is a cracker. Probably my 2nd favourite Star Wars film, after 'The Empire Strikes Back'.
This is the correct answer.
Me too. I remember saying the same thing on the way home from seeing the movie in theatre. Brilliant. Felicity Jones was incredible.
It was a great joy to see it release week on a big screen with a bunch of friends.
What would happen if everyone in hell took painkillers? #joke
Like Your novel Institute in Istanbul, Turks gives medicals for against jinns like sipram depokin… they say me you can reborn in hell drink it and they show horror movies like supernatural …. Pls make in pen something we are in fear…. Doctor lying they say i can reborn in hell cause i must take pill
