As a Columbia Law School graduate ... this is an utter embarrassment, an abject surrender. Columbia, you trained an army of litigators, we could have fought back and won. And you have an entire history faculty that can tell you what happens when you try to appease fascists.

I think you are wrong in assuming the people in charge are unhappy with this result. They wanted to break the power of tenured professors and bring in a more conservative student body. No other explanation makes sense.
Several MAGA senators and the VP are also Ivy trained lawyers. They willingly act against the constitution and their legal ethics to enrich and empower themselves. No noblesse oblige.
