“One theory posits that a sufficiently ancient mimic could impersonate the known universe. Another theory posits that this has already happened.”

I like this concept a lot
Bet the timeless mimic is within the gapping chasm that for some reason smells of bad breath, if I did’t know better I would have thought it to be the maw of some unfathomably large monster.
This has always been one of my favorites, the sense of scale is incredible!
The elder mimic ate Cthulhu.
The most timeless of mimics go smaller, they take the form of a lake, a lady and the sword within. It is said that conquering one will make you a king
Baby mimics are just the handle
Reminds me of a Writing prompt. Lv.0 dungeon where new adventures go. Huge monster/dragon lands out front, takes one look at the entrance, and flees in terror. The idea from the particular one I read is that mimics grow as they get bigger prey. So what was this mimic waiting for? Tis a fun idea.
Another from the same prompt was sad. Lv.0 dungeon for kids and such. Holy Order arrives to purge the great evil lurking within. Ancient Lich scares them off with terror alone. New lv.0 quest appears. "Mr. (I forget his name) is very tired and needs help finding his way back to his room."
Mimics are some of my favorite monsters. So this is one of my favorite comics.
Guild clerk: "Hello, adventurer! You're back early!" Adventurer: "Moon's a mimic." Guild clerk: "What?" Adventurer: *Holstering sword and mounting pegasworse (sword pegasus)* "Moon's a mimic."
