Recognition by not just the UK but any states would equal funding for the PA and a formal diplomatic recognition that would lead to the Palestinians having a formal diplomatic voice......and the ability to fundraise officially in Western nations as a state, rather than just a bunch of NGO's

I would like to see Israel treated like Russia, but being treated like Russia has not curbed Russian bad behaviour. Of course Israel is much smaller and weaker than Russia.

yeah great, let's put Hamas in the UN. People who strap bombs to little kids are currently underrepresented

I could try to engage with that on a rational level but I see people who strap bombs to little kids are just fine by you so there's little point.

If you are concerned by children being deliberately blown up by bombs, you appear strangely silent about another organisation orders of magnitude worse than even Hamas in that regard.

are you suggesting chucking Israel out of the UN? It's an option, I guess. If not, you're just whatabouting which is fine unless you want to achieve anything.

I was thinking of treating all entities that indiscriminately murder innocent civilians the same as my option.

admirable, although this also means expelling Russia and Iran and possibly China. There's a moral case for this but it does make diplomacy awkward.

There are many things one can do which allow the targeted state(s) to remain members and which lie between no action and expulsion.

omg it's like talking to a teenager who read one article in the Telegraph. THE RECOGNISED GOVERNMENT OF PALESTINE IS THE PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY WHICH IS NOT RUN BY GAZA.

yes, I know that and recognising the PA might be good in that maybe, just maybe, it could be beneficial in stopping the illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank but of no benefit to the people of Gaza. If the two areas weren't physically separate, it's be a Palestinian civil war. It was before.

Fundraise so their leaders can steal even more money and make payments to the families of suicide bombers What’s not to like?

It would certainly be unusual to recognise a country with two governments and completely unsettled borders

It would be a FDR vs "The zone" scenario pre-1973 wouldn't it?

Legitimisation of Hamas?

Tamas Rev @tamasrev.bsky.social

I'd love it either way, so the picture will be clearer: 1. Legitimisation of Hamas could be the end of the double standards. I.e. they must not shoot rockets to civilians anymore. 2. Somehow the Palestinian people elect a leader that is not a terrorist organization and also recognizes Israel.

I know, both options are a bit utopistic. Anyway, just by having an agreed border (I know, I know) between Israel and Palestine could make the picture a lot clearer.
