Final Word on 2024: Latinos Fueled Trump Win nymag.com/intelligence... since we’d love for folks—like me—who care about genocide &🇵🇸 to continue voting & to continue voting for Dems (as most of us did in 2024), isn’t it time to abandon this now thoroughly disproven narrative about why we lost?!

I don't even know what to say about this. As a middle-aged white woman who voted for Harris, I think I feel a little bit betrayed by the very people I wanted to protect.

I hear you—but, does blaming folks who didn’t have access to reliable info help any of us? Or encourage voting? Whose fault is it? if I were anyone else, if I’d seen that Trump RBG abortion ad a few more times, I’d have thought he was pro choice… Blaming folks won’t encourage including more of us?

I think for me, it's less about blame and more a sense of despair. Just like, what are we fighting for anyway? They say white women voted for Trump, and I'm screaming I didn't into the wind.

To be clear: I’m certainly not suggesting folks start blaming Latinos….(which, because math, no one would do). But I’m hoping it’s finally time to consider: what is the impact/who does it help politically when we blame students, Jews & Muslims who care about genocide?? Does it foster more hate?

FWIW: the death of journalism (& that, but for Disney, all major media is GOP owned) meant most voters did not have access to reliable info. If there is a next election, the overwhelming majority will be low info voters. Moving on from blame, maybe this is what we must be laser focused on?

Democratic candidates should go on Latino media and/or run ads in which the candidates speak in Spanish.

They have for my entire life—the problem is more that voters aren’t going there anymore & are getting info elsewhere.

I think we know the answer & it’s why there are 10000 articles on what Democrats actually need is their own Joe Rogan…& why certain governors have appeared on terrible white nationalists podcasts. I can’t say I’d be enthusiastic about Democrats who appear antivax podcasts…so I am not for this?

Maybe videos in Spanish on TikToK & Instagram simply explaining why Dems are better than Republicans. Make a couple of simple points at a time. I read that even whitebread JD Vance spoke in Spanish somewhere that mattered to appeal to Latinos (can't remember the venue), where his opponent didn't.

Kindly, I don’t think not speaking Spanish is the issue—it’s that many folks get their info from awful & unreliable sources….& appearing on them, really runs the risk of losing people exactly like me!

Why Latinos voted for tr*mp? I heard a discussion on NPR pre-election that was related to this article. They said that many Latinos listen to Spanish speaking broadcasts. They are more comfortable with the Spanish language but what why hear most often is not truthful. www.pbs.org/newshour/pol...

Maybe it's a New York City thing but I know Latino ppl who were born here but speak Spanish at home with family and with friends. They even have accents when they speak English. They are much more comfortable using Spanish. I was even lightly reprimanded for not remembering my middle school Spanish.

I’m from NY too; my recently deceased stepfather was Colombian—so I grew up with folks speaking Spanish in my house. I’ve spent my adult life in LA, CA, where ~1/2 of our population is Latino. It’s not the Spanish that’s new—(or other languages)—it’s the destruction of journalism…

OK. I respect your views on this. I agree that there is a destruction of journalism. That destruction appears in either language. We agree! 😊
