They think the city liberals don’t care about them, and the right exploits that. When I get to speak with farmers I always bring up right to repair, the Monsanto monopoly, and corporations buying up all the farm land stealing family farms that have been around for generations.
John Deere had to be sued to provide parts and maintenance guides to customers. Monsanto copyrighted the genome of their seeds, farmers that replant seeds from a previous crop or in any way try to change the crop can be criminally charged and sued. They must buy new seeds every single year.
Corporate farms plant giant mono cultures of the same crop year after year, draining the soil of nutrients, and increasing the need for chemical fertilizers. These fertilizers pollute the water of surrounding communities and poison the farmers that use them.
The price of farm equipment, seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides force most family run farms to go deep into debt to keep up with corporate farms. Subsidies mostly benefit large corporate farms whereas smaller farms are left behind.
Not to mention giant corporations like Walmart mostly buy from corporate farms. Locally produced foods are mostly relegated to farmers markets and small businesses that are struggling immensely in this economy. Local farmers often have to take a loss to compete with giant corporations.
