I wouldn’t jump to the idea that it was entirely scrapped. It could still come back under Jared Bush’s leadership. If it is actually cancelled, I’d blame it less on Jennifer Lee and more on Disney higher-ups being hesitant due to some real life conflict related to Iran or something.
There are people even higher up than Jennifer Lee? I mean besides Iger, mind you.
You have people in upper management, marketing, risk management, and so forth. Back then during the early 1990s, it was just one person up top. Not Michael Eisner, but Jeffrey Katzenberg. Part of Your World was nearly cut and he told Bill Farmer not to do his Goofy voice. Now it’s several suits.
Yeah, I heard about that. That would've been entirely stupid. Trying to make Goofy sound normal is like asking Donald Duck to do the same by taking a throat lozenge for his voice.
Voice acting allows one to separate themselves from the character their voicing. It is why having Zendaya voice Lola Bunny didn’t fit when in comparison to the other #LooneyTunes characters as their voices match how we associate with them.
That was stunt casting at it's worst. At first, I didn't mind it because I thought Space Jam: A New Legacy was good. But now looking back, maybe they should've gotten Kath Soucie back.
No one wouldn’t mind if Kristen Wiig reprised Lola Bunny considering that she was a highlight on The Looney Tunes Show. Yeah, Kath Soucie should have been in the Final Cut. WB likely saw how marketable she was as she starred in Spider-Man, Euphoria, and their soon to be Dune adaptation.
That's the only reason they hired her in the first place. Not because of her worth as an actress but because her name was plastered on this particular hit movie or show, that means she's qualified to be the new voice of Lola Bunny. That's the same shallow reason Jack Black and Chris Pratt get hired.
And don't even get me started on Rihanna being cast as Smurfette. You want to talk about bad celebrity stunt casting? At least Jack Black and Chris Pratt have acting chops.
Same applies to storylines or characters of any country that is viewed in a negative light by most of the world.
