Why is he (Zelenskyy) doing this? I don't understand?! What has changed that he feels like this is the route he needs to take?

Would it be a collective (between the European leaders and Z) gambit to come away with some sort of an Article 5 -esque mutual defense agreement? Do they not know that Trump dishonors all agreements, or is it 11th hour desperation at no other choice — if Ukraine falls then rest of Europe is next?
