I need a #Meatballs oral history. It is so aggressively mediocre, and Bill Murray repeatedly risks a hernia trying to save it.

It is not a “good” movie, but it is charming as heck, it has some genuinely funny bits, and Murray’s two moments of vulnerability (once with Chris Makepeace, once with Kate Lynch) really make the movie.
The first movie I recorded off of HBO after we bought our first VCR. I watched it approximately a bajillion times. But yes. Murray is basically the only part that works. Though did you spot character actor Matt Craven as Hardware?
It isn't a great movie, but its major problem is a conspicuous lack of aliens, which was subsequently corrected.
It isn't a great movie, but I saw it in theaters and I watched it on HBO so many times that it made my list of "most watched movies" in the Globe. Plus, it has "Makin' It" by the American Werewolf in London! C'mon! C'mon! www.bostonglobe.com/2024/07/18/a...
It just doesn't matter
Also every time I hear a cop on a UK show say he's from the CID, I hum the CIT song in my head
When we were CITs at Camp White Pine, we just... sang the song.
Bill Murray deserved an Oscar for the “It just doesn’t matter” speech. I am only half-kidding.
Sometimes, endless repeatability is Oscar enough. I've never repeated a single line from "The Artist," but Jean Dujardin has an Oscar.
one of the first movies I watched a billion times as a kid was Meatballs II on vhs and we just referred to it as Meatballs so I didn't know there was a first one until I was much older and tried watching it and I'll stick to 2 thank you very much
Its other major problem is that most of the campers didn't look like they lived within a few blocks of Bathurst
The song was pretty good
I can tell you all about Camp White Pine, where it was filmed.
That’s a start.

My unanswered question is whether Tripper is his actual name, nickname, or a colloquial (and now archaic) title for head camp counselor?
Trippers are/were the counselors who led campers on canoe trips.
Got it.
Whoa.
Oh Eric did this? I was such a fan of his stuff.
Jr High + Christopher Makepeace = 🥰
