I think we're about to see a massive push for "students should always be seated in rows" (because "RESEARCH!") from Science of Education folks and I have zero doubt this conversation is going to be abysmal while also leading to worse classrooms for students

Gross because I just got our library's old tables (and padded chairs!) and my students LOVE them.

My students sit where ever they want as long as they're engaged in the targeted learning experience.

Lemov from TLAC, others (mainly on the other website) starting to repeatedly argue that classrooms should be in rows rather than groups

I haven’t seen any study with this kind of finding, BUT (there is now a lot of dumb politicized drama around these resources, but there didn’t used to be) if it’s not found in WWC or similar research clearinghouse, then it’s not actually evidence based. ies.ed.gov/ncee/wwc/

This was one of the big contracts that was cut in DOGE, but it seems like lots of people are calling things “evidence based” without being rigorously tested or reviewed

All you have to do is label something "Science of ______" these days and a lot of people will immediately treat it as gospel...

meanwhile actual science literally means never doing that

I will say that I DO think there are some important research findings re: literacy and reading for HS students that deserve more serious implementation/consideration

spoiler alert: the vast majority of these guides & findings are focused on elementary classrooms, and HS research is woefully sparse IMO

Due to push in AI or just a trend in Ed research at moment?
