At that rate (1000s/year as you mentioned) it wasn't even worth spending money on apprehending them. But now we're talking about "millions a year" if we extrapolate the CBP numbers. Another issue is the total quantity, which went from 3.5M to ~14M - a 400% increase: apnews.com/article/immi...
