I’d like to hope that National Guard or military members would refuse to fire on US citizens. But I just can’t be sure they would.

(Loaded guns are far more likely to go off than guns that weren't brought along...)

They won't fire unless they're ordered to. Or they're spooked. Or someone trips, fires a weapon, and everyone else mistakes it for an attack. Or a car backfires. Or a balloon pops. Or a bee stings a soldier whose finger just happens to be resting on the trigger. Or a soldier suffers a seizure... etc

A large chunk of them are Republican lunatics, who believe they should have the right to kill whomever they want, and boy do they want to kill liberals. Another group is going to follow orders for the paycheck. Rank and file soldiers will kill us. They will not save us.

The National Guard did so at Kent State in 1970 and then, 11 days later, police killed students at Jackson State. There's nothing to suggest their behavior has improved since then. Indeed under Trump's influence, they are likely to be more trigger-happy than ever.

Some of them will. The big question is will an officer give the order, right?

I keep thinking one of Trump’s goon squads are gonna roll into a place they shouldn’t, meet the resistance they thought they wouldn’t, and we’re gonna end up with something like this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985_MO...

I’m already thinking units will be conducting “loyalty tests” and bullying troops into adhering to the new order.

I was a linguist in the Navy and they're very liberal. Even among them you'd have no problem finding people happy to kill a liberal. Send them to NYC or DC and they'll kill Americans as easily as Bin Laden.

They should recognize that Trump and all his appointees have flagrantly violated their oaths every day since Jan 20 and that THEIR oaths to protect and defend the Constitution require them to terminate this Administration as soon as possible by any means necessary.

There are many, many, many members of the Armed Forces that are in the MAGA cult, and they will happily kill their fellow countrymen for Donald Trump. The danger is off the fucking scale.

I am absolutely sure that most of them are looking forward to shooting us. I no longer have any faith in our military or our police force. I must assume that they are all murderous terrorists at heart and cannot wait to be concentration. Camp guards prove me wrong. Motherfuckers prove me wrong.

if the difference between whether the military would shoot a civilian on US soil or not is 'are they registered as a US citizen' and literally no other ethical or emotional responses, wouldn't it be straightforward for the government to just revoke the citizenship of anyone they point their gun at

if a national guard member had someone in their custody and had reservations about doing so to a citizen, and was then told by their superior officer 'the person you are restraining is no longer a citizen, do whatever the fuck you want to them' then i dont think that defense ever held
