I followed after seeing this. This is exactly why I like the internet
Back in the day I used to go to parties where this happened all the time! No fooling. Those were the days.
You can come to my party but you have to bring your book!
Davidson's companion to food is on a bookshelf right behind me when we're eating dinner and I am either instilling an enthusiasm for whimsical research or slowly stifling the impulse to wonder out loud about things for the kid.
Glad to see someone out here is enthusiast at the origin of words. (Like, did you notice how 'nautical' a lot of our slang & idiums are?) The only book i have on the subject is one i appropriately randomly found in an old book store in Ottawa. And it is... a wacky read.
Not all heroes wear capes. I have been banned from using the OED for Scrabble 😔
I would like to be invited to your parties, please.
Well of course not, hosts have a hard enough time trying to find a place for everyone's *coats*, let alone all their reference books. Much easier to come to your place instead. 😊
Are you kidding me? Just might host my first dinner party ever just to invite you
I do this, but via Google, THIS IS MUCH BETTER!
There's also a Rubus species called Wineberry!
I'm a bit confused, but ...
Hawt.
What I do know is that raspberry plants in the wild are often on steep slopes and are difficult to get to. They certainly cause lots of rasps on your skin..
So, after all that, why do YOU think they're called raspberries?
This was a fascinating read. Thanks for sharing!
Also why I would totally attend your dinner parties. Also, yum, raspberries.
🤣😂 I’m all in for finding out where the word raspberry came from! Or any other word for that matter.
I want to go to an etymology party
Idk sounds like a good party to me!
Thus is what we all used to do before the internet! I would totally come to one of your parties! (With a tote bag of books I would perhaps refer to during the evening)
I have never more wanted to throw a diner party
This is exactly why I would invite you to parties
