Frankly I don't like living in an era where no one can read, Big Tech is trying to abolish the educational system as we know it and PBS is gutted because those in power don't see the value in offering children educational programming to counter the ceaseless tide of slop.
But if the children have educational programming they might develop critical thinking skills and realize the slop is slop and maybe we shouldn’t just all keep catching covid and rotting our brains and we can’t have that

An applicant for a university ed-related job here in PA this week related how he was an escapee HS English teacher from another state where, shockingly, tape blocked off the entrance to the school library and he was forbidden to teach such lit as Shakespeare. Only short reading snippets allowed.

to read is an AI version of to think.. put them both in the AI-cage of language and see who survive.. the reader or the thinker.. the reactionary or the actionary likes to be a rolling stone but isn't dead enuff? the knower who doesnt think is like the leader who's leading and not reading..
Mankind has lost something of great value in an era where many can indeed still read, but don't read, largely because they don't value reading. I feel much the same about writing. Both skills are valuable tools that have mental benefits. Living with technoloy responsibly requires sharp minds.
