I read 186 books in the first six months of this year. In today's essay (link below) I explain how I did it, and how you can rekindle your love of reading and become a voracious reader in an age of distraction.

A P.S. I’d add to your section about audiobooks is they’re a great way to get through books that intimidate for one reason or another. For me, I find I have a hard time getting into “classic literature”. But with audiobooks, I’ve managed to read several books I initially struggled with.

Do you use a book tracking app? Last year I dumped Goodreads and started using The StoryGraph to track and review the books I read. It’s a Black woman owned platform and isn’t connected to Amazon. I love the “moods” feature! thestorygraph.com

I highly recommend LibraryThing (@LibraryThing.com), where you can both track your reading (including rate and review) and catalogue the books you own.

Owned by a white dude? How is it better than The StoryGraph, where you can do the same things?

It’s a great site. I didn’t say it was better, just that it’s what I recommend as I’ve been using it for over a decade. I’ve not used StoryGraph so have no idea if it’s as good as I think LT is.

Oh. I wondered why you recommended it as a reply to my recommendation of another app.

It was another suggestion. Nothing more nefarious than that. People prefer different types of platforms and it’s good to know there is a choice.

Thank you for this! I'll be sharing these tips with my students as we talk about independent reading this week.

I can't read when depressed. I'm slowly pulling happy ending books off the shelves and dipping my nose in. Yay!

I dont think reading that much is that good. You're not reading, you're devouring, and either you read, either you think about what you're reading.
