As @prune602.bsky.social pointed out: the russian state becomes more money for foreign cars than for homemade ones (tariffs). Naturally forcing everyone to buy a new car will bring some money, but it would be more if the cars were made abroad.

The problem is the Ladas are unsuited for taxi cars, when one company tried to switch their fleet it turned out downtime for repairs was 30%, they couldn't find enough spare parts to buy and the cars broke down way too often for a brand new car. This will kill half the Russian taxi industry.
Maybe that is what they want to do. Less drivers more infantry.
I once asked a moscovite about Russian taxi drivers in Moscow and the answer was there are no Russian taxi drivers in Moscow. Implying all were from the Central Asian republics.
And they have been trying to get them to sign contracts from a long time. This is just an excuse.
Fewer taxis mean fewer cars in the line for gas. Clever. 😆 Invest in the Russian horse industry.
Yakutian horses cost more than a used Lada 2107.
But more reliable? Russian agriculture yields are tanking but maybe oats can compete with gas when the gas is no longer there.
They're ok outside in the cold at minus 70 degrees.
Better them than me.
