Lance McCullers Jr.’s sprained right foot came after what manager Joe Espada described as a “freak accident” on Saturday in the weight room. The sprain is above McCullers’ big toe. Espada hopes it will only be the requisite 15 days on the injured list.
Certainly no benefit of doubt has been earned by the front office. But if this is legit I’m good with the silver lining of shutting him down for a few starts to preserve the arm. Seemed unlikely to last all year unscathed so a (nominally) mild toe injury in June beats a ‘forearm strain’ in late Aug
