The Astros are signing their draft class tonight. Two over-slot deals of note, per source: 3rd rounder Ethan Frey got $997,500. Slot value for his pick at 95 was $803,900. 7th rounder Jase Mitchell got $797,500. Slot value for his pick at 216 was $267,700.

"Overslot deals" are typically purposeful between teams and agents. They're usually exciting high school kids who can choose to go to college if they don't receive a certain amount of $. Teams have to go "underslot" on other draftees to sign these young players within their alloted draft pool money
