But their union brothers in Local 115 are working there with AEW. I get that their argument is with the building, and AEW being there for three weeks gives them more publicity for how shitty the 2300 is. But I also can't take someone who unironically uses "AEW stan" in an argument seriously.

Their union brothers working is not an argument. They lost work. I am really lost how this isn’t more obvious to everyone. Then again, I worked in the union so it just feels painfully obvious what is happening

I’m totally with unions on lost work L8 sees it as lost & they shouldn’t be expected to have thought or known otherwise Tony didn’t go “ah, back in Philly; what are my options?” then chose 2300 *over* say, Wells or Liacouras it’s also true that w/o 2300, AEW likely wouldn’t have 7 Philly shows rn

it’s a nuanced situation, because L8 also isn’t wrong to picket a job that appears from the outside to be the same as any other job where they typically would. I just think their messaging surrounding it could’ve been different, but then again I’m not a labor negotiator so wtf do I know

oh god, the messaging was a total disaster. it's way worse than most of you guys even know because the wrestling media hasn't hit on some of the even stronger parts. 😂

they don't know that. they don't know the ins and outs. it's just simple.. if AEW ran the union venue for 7 weeks, that's a lot of pension, healthcare, and money for union members, and the union as a whole. they don't realize or recognize it wouldn't have happened that way

hey, have a genuinely unironic use of “good talk” 😅 it’s remarkable how civil and not-inherently-evil having a chat about anything is on here compared to the old place

oh yeah, it's all good. i totally understand and get everyones perspectives. i'd be completely on the same side if I didn't have experience with this. what a weird random event.

They obviously aren't running Liacouras for multiple shows, and they aren't running Xfinity Mobile Arena (brand new name, BTW) in this lifetime. Dunno if there are union venues in town that are 800-1000 in size.

My brother and mom were CWA but rarely travelled (my brother might get pulled in to a different location when he was a lineman in an emergency but largely worked out of one garage...) so that's a detail I wasn't aware of or considering.

The thing that made this all go sideways was them using AEW heavily to make this a story. But they also wanted it to gain traction. I get it. Also the completely different communication from union members doesn’t help, but that’s common as well

When did the union HQ move to its current location? Moneyed promoters have been running there since the remodeling/rebranding started 20+ years ago. Tons of boxing cards, including many on ESPN. The Eagles' Super Bowl party. Until they explain why they never protested the venue before, it's sus.

They have protested the venue but yes, not at a level you’re saying they should have. It’s 7-10 jobs at a venue that doesn’t run a ton of things. The real issue is where AEW would have booked otherwise, and losing those jobs. They lost work, they don’t have replacement work, they picket.

My hope is that the way they went about their messaging hasn’t just lost them all AEW work going forward…

That's not likely. His road crew is IATSE out of Jacksonville (local 115, Andy, right?). Would think it wouldn't help running events in Philly as often, though.

That’s what I mean. The Philly crew is framing it as “running a non-Union venue is stealing work from them” but running a Union venue would be fine. This may discourage AEW from running ANY venue… I don’t want that… The Philly Union doesn’t care at all about Tony’s existing traveling Union staff.

I suspect that could potentially be the result after three weeks of this: less PPVs or TV tapings.

It’s okay if I can’t change your mind. It’s just really boring job stuff. It doesn’t matter, the union hasn’t been straight forward making it very easy to look into this as some grand scheme when it’s super boring
