I don’t know what to do. I voted. I volunteered. I called my reps (though they all voted against it from the start). I donated. I had hard conversations, so many that I lost friends and lost contact with family. I’m raising my children to do the right thing. But I’m at a loss. What else is there?

Do what you can; leave the rest. Staying alive, healthy, and (as much as one can be expected to in times like this) happy means that, even in some small way, fascism loses.

You know you're powerless when the wealthy have taken your government. Stop buying Amazon. Stop buying kindle. Stop using WhatsApp Facebook Instagram. Stop going to work. Stop paying electricity car home insurance. So much to do besides phone calls and talk.

You have to make peace with the fact that we’re going to lose. A lot. Catch your breath and get back up when you’re ready.

I get feeling discouraged, but systemic change is a long game. The right spent at least 50 years to get to this outcome. Before that, the fight for civil rights took even longer. We have to be more persistent than the ones in power right now…we have to be in it for the long haul.

Unless you're looking to run, that's the best you can do. It's a marathon, not a race. The midterms will be the next big goal to shoot for.

We need to give ourselves a little bit of time to grieve, and then, we regroup. Decide where best to focus our efforts - and they may need to be local, rather than national. Those f*ckers may be intent on destroying us all, but I for one will only go down fighting.

Direct help to those who need it, neighbors helping each other, filling the gaps the government won't. When all the safety nets are shredded, we can still help each other... Though I'm still wrecked. This is beyond heartbreaking. It's soul destroying.

And I’m doing that. I have monthly recurring donations to a local food bank and immigrant protection group. Our jobs (the whole family) are all doing the good work. We’re involved in the community. I just feel totally helpless.

I know what you mean absolutely. I wasn't meaning to imply that you weren't already, in the slightest! It's just in my journey, when I moved from mainly larger-political-sphere to mainly local action, it helped me feel a little less helpless. But I still do. I apologize sincerely!

I feel you 100%. I was in your exact same place - still am, somewhat. But one thing that has honestly helped so much is getting involved with mutual aid.

Remember that the hardliners are only 30%; tharlt we just need to convince a few to change their opinions and stop drinking the koolaid. We can recover.
