And that is the crux of it. Yes, mental issues are certainly part of it. But the same people who blame mental illness instead of access to guns have zero interest in addressing either issue. The only time they mention mental health issues is when they use it to divert attention away from guns.

There was a time when people with a history of mental illness could NOT legally purchase a firearm. Trump did away with that during his first term…..and mass shootings by mentally ill folks have doubled since then.

1.) I've been a mental health professional for almost 22yrs (LCMHC) and the stigma that mentally ill people are violent/dangerous, is incorrect. www.samhsa.gov/mental-healt... The reason so many believe this myth is because they aren't educated. People with personality disorders like:

2.) ASPD, BPD, & NPD (which many professionals believe tRUmP battles) are more likely to become aggressive than someone who battles schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or OCD, but these disorders are still relatively new to most laymen.

3.)While these disorders are technically categorized as a mental illness, it is far more nuanced. Personality disorders aren't linked to a chemical imbalance like, say, schizophrenia, therefore, those disorders are more challenging to manage because there are no FDA approved

4.) medications that exist for personality disorders. Whereas, many medications are approved & available to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc. Talk therapy & CBT are also important in both types of disorders. 🟢Soooo, (finally 😊) "mentally ill" people are not the ones we should be afraid of.

5.) It's this exact myth that takes the focus off of the truly dangerous ppl in society like religious fundamentalists (christian nationalists) & radical groups like the pRouD bOyS, wHitE supremacists, etc. ‼️NOTHING IN THIS 5 part thread is medical or mental health advice-it's information-based only

The truth, IMHO, is that wanting to own a weapon of war, is the actual red flag in itself. It's not practical for self defense/home protection. If someone wants an automatic/semi-automatic weapon, they're looking to kill indiscriminately & en mass. Or they suffer from serious paranoid delusions..?

I'm a Liberal Democrat & I'm a proud, responsible gun owner. I have a handgun solely for personal protection, and anyone who claims they need a weapon of war for self-defense or hunting is absolutely full of shit. #CommonSenseGunReformNow

This used to be the common shared belief before the NRA spurred a radical pro gun movement. If someone showed interest in obtaining bomb building components, that was a red flag & nobody was arguing about personal freedom to commit mass murder. Machine guns were seen as a threat & were outlawed.

1) Every gun sale makes a profit for the gun industry. Which means every gun sale is good in their minds. 2) Every mass shooting actually results in an uptick in gun sales. They studied it & they love it. It's good for business. Once they put 💰 ahead of everything & everyone else, we end up here🎯⚰️🇺🇲!

Precisely. Especially because mental health can change rather rapidly. It’s not something easily prevented.

They actively deny ADHD, autism and mental health problems & say people make them up. Being Snowflakes. That is until someone does something & then any excuse including weirdly 'lone wolf’. A white male was bravely acting on his own instead of being brainwashed online due to not living the dream.

They deny these things when other people's kids need support or services. But they absolutely take advantage of any treatment, support or program if it helps their precious baby. There are families who might deny these things for their own kids, due to political or religious beliefs. Duped by cult
