why build ferries in british columbia when you can threaten legal action against bands who make fun of how long you have to wait to get on a ferry in british columbia

This entire band and the story is just glorious. So fun. Shout out as well to @bcferrys.bsky.social @bcferries.bsky.social Both my reserved sailings to and from Sunshine Coast were a pleasure. Get the band playing the terminals immediately!!!

I dont really care that the ferries aren't built in BC (would be cool to make plans to do it in the future, but BC shipyards are booked up for a long time when we need the ferries yesterday), but jfc it's pathetic to threaten legal action over this lol

I understand the issue with the BC shipyards being busy. It would be great if they could expand & find the labour needed to build them here, but that takes time. However, I am disappointed in awarding them to a Chinese company when we are in the middle of a trade war with China.

didn't we start the trade war on China on behalf of American automakers?

It has been going on longer than the EV tariffs, but it remains the fault of America (mostly, plus speaking out about the treatment of Uyghurs). Goes back to Huawei and the 2 Michaels. Our auto worker unions supported the move with the EV tariffs & the EU also introduced EV tariffs on China.

Why discuss building a bridge when we can spend billions on building and maintaining ferries that can't operate in windy weather? ;) #bcpoli #yyj #3sailingwait

The ocean is very deep… it’s not feasible.

elcanaco.bsky.social @elcanaco.bsky.social

Well, it is feasible. It's a matter of location and cost. For example, a serious of smaller bridges up the Sunshine Coast and across from Lund to Cortes to Quadra to Campbell River avoids the deep water issue. The bigger issue is will Islanders block it.

so theres these things we get there that they dont over by pei called "earthquakes"

Earthquakes aren't an issue if bridges are designed to accommodate them. Japan has sizeable bridges, for example. It would certainly increase cost, however.

It isnt just the length of the bridge, it's the depth of the water being crossed and what's going on on the ocean floor where the pilings will be.

elcanaco.bsky.social @elcanaco.bsky.social

Absolutely, if there is a direct crossing. Engineering can solve that, as it has been done in many countries. But that's also only one way to do a crossing. Further up the island is close to the mainland, so a crossing would be much easier and avoid the deep water issue entirely.

As I recall, a trademark copyright holder has to bring action even in small cases, or a future illegal user who IS a big deal can say they didn’t assert their right so it’s public now. Lawyers, whaddaya say?
