The FF9 port to Switch is pretty ass. The fast forward which you have to go in the menu to even toggle is legit TOO FAST which makes the battles more difficult cause the enemies are constantly attacking before I can even think 😂 and the regular battle speed is too slow 😩
Like I’ve always said ATB really stands for actually truly bad. 9 is so painfully slow in the combat. It’s a real bummer.
The combat in 9 without the x10000 speed is so slow, could probably only sit through that in the early 2000’s not now 😂

I didn't realize this back in the day, but was surprised to learn recently that even setting the battle system to Wait would only pause enemy behavior if a menu was actively open? I think FFX was the first one where turn order was truly set. Feels like a strange choice imo

I"ve played it on PSX, Switch, and PC, hands down the PC wins, only due to the modding community, however. You can also change the battle mode to 'Wait' in the options menu iirc. www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy... Once again, saved by the community (Just for 60fps mode alone and texture uplifts) 🤣
Yeah they made a lot of weird decisions with this version of the game. Its the same for the other ports too I think. The way around this for me was to decrease battle speed all the way and then use fast forward, but when you dont want to use it youre screwed lol
The god mode toggle is ass too cause you have to watch the trance animation every single time. FF9 is legit the slowest most pain in the ass FF when it comes to combat lmao
Yeah the trance shit in general is so dumb to begin with 😂 The other ports at least have a toggle via a button instead of the menu and are x3 while this port is x4 from what I've read. I'm going to put this to the side for now and maybe come back later lol
I found it crashed a fair bit too… later in the game anyway.
Yeah I’ve already had one crash, thankfully there is an autosave but don’t love that its prone to crashes either

Yeah FF7 and FF8 port had the toggle on the button which was so convenient and speed options!

I NEED the battles sped up but the FF9 port is sped up to like 1000 😂 FF7 port was perfect with the x3 speed

Kill 10,000 enemies in one playthrough. Even if you grind like.. everything, all abilities, etc, everyone to 99. You will kill around 2000. The other 8000 is just absolutely for nothing. The other being view all 79 ATE's, some are so obscure without a detailed walk through. (I did 78, gave up)
The 8k is to prove your committed. 😈

lmao yeah this is why I initially couldn't get into the playstyle at all. It does get less slow once you have more to do if that makes sense lol. Like once your characters level up and you can play around with their kit more the battles get more interesting so
the pacing feels better. But yeah as a port it truly does fail in the whole x3 thing that FF7s port did so well.
Its like its defaulted to x100 😂 I’m reallly slow in thinking what to do for my next move so this is not great for me 😂
I think this is why I turned it on once and then never again. Heck I straight up forgot you gotta toggle it on in the menu.
Its so stupid cause why change it after the 7 and 8 port 😂 at least I can cheat if the game annoys me haha
