everyone loves the prequels. everyone loves knowing every single details about every single Glup Shittus and everyone loves having every single passing lines or a mystery something being explained completely into a more boring and uninteresting version of what everyone thought it was going to be.

I think some of the prequels have been great to show the rise of the legions then the fall to modern 40k. It is nice to have a sort of point of comparison of how things were at their best (which wasn't great) compared to now (which is worse). 1/

Plus I like that every time we see the Great Crusade it's often paired with showing that the Legions were not there to protect humanity but to colonize humanity by erasing their culture and language, and if need be their populace. Takes the wind out of the fash "best for humanity" lie. 2/

Yes, there are books that stumble in places and some are just obvious filler to get legions from one place to another, but we got a lot of good character studies as well. So about the same we get from 40k proper in quality. /3

you cant tell me some 40k Loretuber droning about some minor space marine Glup Shittus would sound any different from some Star Wars wookietuber droning about some minor clone wars Glup Shitto that is soon going to get a "Book of Glup Shitto" TV series

i think the idea of HH is interesting as so far as in... in paints a good look at the underlying motives of individual primarchs and how the petty personal issues of these few and powerful beings brings about ruin and destruction for everyone. but did that really need 60 something books?

To put it into further perspective, Horus Heresy began as a PARAGRAPH of text existing entirely to justify a two-player set that uses identical sprues for both sides. At the time it was initially written, there weren't even "primarchs" in the modern sense of the word. And now it's A HUNDRED NOVELS

I only read the first chapter of the very first one, but I fully agree with this statement.

I haven't read even that but the people gushing over them tend tod describe what sounds like hardcore fash vibes I am told that varies book by book, however

Here's an example. It gets worse.

A page of questionable prose from Dan Abnett's First and Only.

maybe its just a personal thing that i read all of this in a sarcastic tone, like im viewing a starship troopers movie. maybe all BL books should come with a pic of this just to compensate for the illiterate.

I am currently (this very moment) reading First and Only, another Abnett's book (don't ask why, I don't know either). It DOES have hardcore fash vibes. Not a shred of satire. And it's written in third-person omniscient. You can't use this perspective for something this biased.

Abnett is the one I heard mentioned as fashy, yeah. At best, he's not fash, he's just enmeshed in military honour to which I gotta say, it's the same picture

I wish the HH was more a recolection of in universe books - A marine's diary as shit goes down - Recordings of the great crussade and the Heresy - Battle Reports of the war, were as ot goes on there's more emotion into it bc the writer's sanity is slipping Have some info, but keep the mistery

The combination of companies wanting to milk every last cent possible from franchises and the extreme minority of fans who want every single detail explained to them so they can know everything has been a tragedy for fandom. I miss when half of the setting was a mystery you could discuss for hours.

I actually am on the other side of this. While I do live my orks, I find most of 40k dull. I much prefer the tech and stories of GC/HH.
