Many people even claim that MLK was a conservative. There are a lot of people who want to really inflate the numbers of conservatives. I even hear more than a few Democrats doing that. Some of it is simple ignorance, but to me it's mostly solidarity with conservatives and trying to normalize them.
People who push that lie belligerently ignore that Dr. King's membership in the GOP was BEFORE THE BIG SWITCH.
Actually there's no evidence that MLK Jr was ever a Republican. It's his Dad MLK Sr who was a Republican until 1928, then switched parties along with the majority of black voters after the Great Crash of 1929. The Big Switch among black voters was away from the GOP after 1929.
