psychiatrist on wkend rounds once told my inpatient 19-21 year old during the third week of her first psychotic episode that he "could tell" that she didn't have schizophrenia "as soon as (he) walked into the room" 1 no you couldn't 2 it's brief psychotic d/o for 6 mo anyway 3 WHY tell her that?!
spoilers: he told her that because he was sorta gross and he wanted to reassure her in a manner that was inappropriate, leveraging his over-expanded ego to fuel his self-serving delusion that he was helping her by minimizing the seriousness of the current situation and the gravity of the road ahead

& because I was an attending APRN & "not the doctor" I was the asshole for sayin "HEY. We don't know what's going on. We can't. We wont' know for a WHILE. We just need to focus on what's in front of us and get her feeling better." WELL HER DOCTOR SAID no the ON CALL GUY who DOESN'T KNOW HER said
Oh and did I mention she was experiencing the effects of psychosis? This included paranoia! & so then she was paranoid of me because I was not about to falsely reassure her she does not have schizophrenia (especially in light of [redacted compelling info]) But ThE DoCktoRrr
Moral of the story anyone who says they can diagnose based on vibes is gross for one reason or another and is not a safe person to be in charge of anything nevermind someone else’s health and well being
