AI ruined the em dash for me much in the same way that ABA ruined the phrase “evidence-based” for me. Like, I just can’t trust it anymore, okay?

Ironically, in Spanish, we do need the em dash for writing dialogue.
Me, an insufferable American white lady from NH: oh look that’s neat! (I assume this link is terrible in ways I’ve failed to appreciate.)
I meant writing narrative dialogue (i.e. short stories, novels, etc.). Sorry for the confusion. Here’s an example.
ah yes, I think that's what my link explains, but they call it "dialogue dash" because we can't have nice things apparently
Today I learned! When I took Spanish in school we were taught to use << and >> (except the Unicode for them together, which I am unable to find on my phone this morning) but maybe this is down to regional differences. I like the em dash for speaking! Visually appealing.
Yup
The way I cringe at evidence based 😅
