My kid's school district doesn't have a bus fee, but it does have a text book fee. I am angry every time I write that check.

Our school has strange fees here in Tennessee. Our old district in Illinois didn't. I never paid them because I looked up the statute and learned they were voluntary. They never did anything bad to me and my kids were able to get their transcripts and everything. (We were living in poverty btw.)

I actually don't know what happens if a parent doesn't pay. I do know there's a waiver for families with free/reduced lunch.
