Every time we went to my grandparents house, grandma sent me out with change to get her cigarettes. Sometimes she gave me extra for a candy bar. I was 5 then, but remember like it was yesterday.
No one even batted an eye at the corner store when I bought my dad’s Kents. But they didn’t think twice about letting me sit at the bar with him at the local tappie either.

Bottle of coke and a pack of smokes. I'd get a sip of the coke as reward.
My folks had an index card with a note on it that said who I was purchasing the Kools for. The note was stuck with a push pin on the front door. I was 8. lol
In my day, it was 50 cents and getting Chesterfields for my grand dad. I was 8.
Funny, I don't remember the price. I'm sure it was under two bucks.
Well, I was a kid in the Dark Ages, so ... 😄
