All of this from a university that allowed them to very easily upload it to a central location which was accessible to all students. At a point, I stopped looking for a syllabus because it always ended up being some stupid bullshit like this. It's not fair if yours is easy... But I get it tbh

I realize this is just venting at this point but I forgot the worst. Day one of class, he passed around a physical copy of the syllabus stapled to a sign in sheet which had a line for us to include a FAX NUMBER if we wanted a physical copy. This was 2014 lmao

Seconding Courtney here… I have some colleagues who are… not good… at their jobs. I literally don’t know ANYONE who doesn’t post a syllabus as a (perfectly normal, readable) .pdf on their course site on the LMS. (It may be the ONLY decent thing some of my worst colleagues do… but it’s that basic.)

Agreed. Even the worst of the worst get a basic syllabus of a minimum of readings/due dates/exam dates up. I think this is way more common as most unis collect syllabi (in some way) for accreditation purposes.

I appreciate the perspective, truly. But also, I do provide a physical and digital copy, on the school’s platform (that takes my dates & complies them on a calendar). Each student has to pay attention to 3-5 syllabi on average. Most unis require that the syllabus is online.

If I were to send out readings/assignment reminders to each class for EVERY class, I’d spend an hour + Monday-Friday JUST doing just that. I don’t get paid enough for something that’s a skill most students need to learn.
