So as someone waiting on a kidney, we have an issue with organ donation in this country. The solution is NOT "paid donations" because all that does is make those stuck in poverty by the system look at their own bodies as a temporary way out of the hole. I need a kidney, but not at that cost.

I have all the respect in the world for people who give up a kidney as a living donor because we do in fact use both and living with only one kidney has a bunch of risks. Paying desperate people for them is asking them to not just undergo major surgery but affect their lives forever

Actual solution to the problem: Make organ donation on death opt-out instead of opt-in. If for religious or personal reasons you don't want your organs donated, you have to fill out a form. No fees or anything like that, just make donation the default instead of not donating.
