Love the "cyborg Kenny Loggins" - both as description and in album form. On a side note, I used to make carefully calibrated running playlists. One time I just listened to I Get Wet. Fastest I ever ran.

Good grief, just realised I've yet to try it out in the gym. That'll have to change.

I had never heard of Andrew W.K. in my life, but based on your description I had to give it a try. After the first three tracks I wrote "I think this is so dumb it's actually good". Then after another I wrote "no, it's so dumb, it's just dumb". I went back and forth like that the whole album. 1/2

After @nichtnutz.bsky.social comment, looked for the Pitchfork 0.6 review and literally, truly, LOL'ed several times. But then noticed that a decade later they upped their score to 8.6 and that review also made me LOL. Here they are: pitchfork.com/reviews/albu... pitchfork.com/reviews/albu...

They should write pans if and only if they can refrain from whining about "indie" fans liking music that "rocks" imo

Pitchfork gets a pass for Jet and Maneskin cause they actually deserved their pans

Hahaha I can’t stand Ryan Schreiber. There’s a 1989 album up this week that isn’t terribly far off from I GET WET in some ways. 😉

The early days P4k snark painted over with retrospective ass-kissing elicits no respect at all from me.

I was told later that my reply to this on my blog was ultimately what got me hired there which makes me laugh (I love this record)

Thanks for linking to that excellent breakdown of Daft Punk’s album and “Face to Face” in particular. Great little documentary breakdown, perfect for a Sunday morning.

Damn, I've only actually listened to one of those in full. I was still listening to new music then, and a few faves came out I discovered later, but I was already way out of the loop. IDM was wrecked by glitch, 90s garage rock was dying as 00s was coming in and none of my indie pop faves made a dent

Andrew W.K., which I own and loved. That review kept me from reading Pitchfork for years which probably contributed to my being out of touch.

Gonna have the same dilemma you had with GOLD when I get to Whiskeytown in Certain Songs. STRANGER'S ALMANAC is probably my favorite record of the second half of the 90s, and I love the original leaked version of PNUEMONIA nearly as much, not to mention specific memories of seeing them in concert
