While true, I should like to rephrase that to "the Earth will heal from us, too." If we continue like this, in geological terms the age of man will eventually turn out as utterly insignificant. The planet will quietly continue orbiting the sun for eons on end...

The Earth survived an asteroid big enough to ignite the atmosphere. It will survive us. We might not survive our own greed though.

Keep in mind - 76% of the species that existed at the end Cretaceous event were eliminated. Humans would not be a surviving species. Not saying that's a bad thing - just something to keep in mind.
