Making excuses for him does nothing to pressure him. The only way to get a politician to change their views is to tell them you will not donate or vote for them unless they change.

"Respects and works to ensure the universality of human rights" is not the requirement of a "perfect" politician. It is the bare-minimum, bar-on-the-floor-in-hell requirement to be a *human being*. If your candidates cannot jump over *that* bar, and you support them, you deserve what will happen.
