In some states, ballot tabulators are briefly connected to the internet to transmit results when polls close. And in many places, other election infrastructure, such as pollbooks with lists of digital voter registration records, has internet connectivity. aje.io/akyo3h
In the UK you now have to identify yourself. But previously you just announced who you were and you got crossed off the register. Then it's STILL a piece of paper and a pencil. Hand counting. No hanging chads... But that's a can of worms!
[In South Africa where I was born, it's government ID only, and you are given your voting station. That means half the people are known personally by both the officials and other voters. It's like a block party! 😹]
Keep the voting stations small. Although I like the idea of semi permanent ink and stamp to indicate you have voted. They used to stamp the back of your hand with UV ink at raves. Some of us wanted it on our foreheads! Groovy 😎 Providing Govt ID is free.
