I didn’t get where I am today without my A in General Studies
I didn’t get where I am today without my A in General Studies
Same for me with my OA level (?) Use Of English, which our teacher insisted was multiple choice rather than multiple guess. Shows what he knew.
My General Studies course was unexamined which is ironic because so were the certificates for the examined ones.
A for General Studies, D for everything else. My major contribution to the world is "headful of random shit".
I can’t even remember what we did in the lessons for General Studies now really
Ours (unexamined) were amazing. Variously we.. flannneured about London going to small and obscure exhibitions, took in architecture, and sculpted jazz in a large site specific piece to accompany the school swing band's 40th anniversary performance.
👀
I think we just had one or two at the beginning of each term of 6th form. I remember there being a thread about "communications" in general through them, and some puzzles.
Yeah - I think we did a lot of looking at different newspaper articles.
Genuinely the one I'm most proud of.
Literally in my case, my B in General Studies got me into Manchester, where I still live.
Yeah, I missed an A I was meant to get in another subject and needed to get onto my course at Lancaster. Luckily they actually accepted GS! My life could be quite different if I’d gone to a different university. I mean not necessarily in a bad way, it’s just funny what things hinge on sometimes.
Yeah, I've often wondered where I might have ended up had I (as I initially thought) had to go through clearing. Probably would have gone to pretty much any city, though. Main thing was to escape fucking Dewsbury.
Ha, yeah same (replace Dewsbury with Northamptonshire)
I really wish I’d gone to art school. I had the chance and for reasons that are no longer important didn’t go. I often wonder how things might’ve turned out.
You can drive yourself mad wondering about the what-ifs, though. So much stuff that I based decisions on felt huge at the time and in hindsight seems like nothing at all.
Aced mine. Finished the paper early, left it so the kid behind me could copy everything he could because I'm kind like that (found out later he got a B) and then went to the pub. Oh if only all A-levels were like General Studies aka Pub Quiz!
Me neither.
Same
I have found my people here..
It remains my only achievement.
I think I got like a D or something in the mock, just because I didn’t gel with whatever random topics they made that particular exam about. A ridiculous subject….
I was the only person in my class who could answer the question about which instrument Charlie Parker played, as I have mentioned in every job interview I've had since.
I got an A and was then delighted to find that not one university accepted it
Lancaster did for some unknown reason despite it being reasonably prestigious in university terms
I failed to get into Lancaster regardless. Clearing for me.
Very much a required qualification for Bluesky though, which in the end turns out to be all that really counts
I'm making serious bank off it these days, if only my 6th Form careers adviser had told me about it back then
ikr
I didn’t get where I am today without my B in Art
