Rubber bullets are actually metal wrapped with a thin layer of rubber. Tasers can cause heart attacks and strokes. Batons can break bones.
Fix your headline. They weren't "fighting" against ICE raids. They were peacefully protesting. Don't be part of the problem.
It was so shameful to watch. A reverse engineered “riot” where all violence came from ICE, SDLA and LAPD.
The GOP owns this chaos & it will be their legacy, just like for those involved in Kent State located in Ohio when force was used against protesters!
They’ll be writing the history, here. So.
The internet is forever & for the most part they can try but the truth can only be hid for so long! Sooner or later it rears its head!
Unfortunately, there are predictable events between now and then, too.

A friend of mine basically had her hand blown apart by a rubber bullet that had already bounced off the ground during the Portland Black Lives Matter protests. This shit is still extremely dangerous.
In france, during the events now known as "The Yellow Jackets", several persons lost an eye to these rubber bullets, obviously on purpose from the cops. People lost hands and feet trying to throw back/kick tear gaz and flashbang grenades. There's a whole lot of documentaries that documented this.
Few people effectively died because of sound grenades to the head and one old lady was murdered, being suffocated AT HOME by a tear gas grenade thrown "by mistake" (I believed she lived on the second or third floor of her building).
Also remember, tear gas is illegal to use in war, but a-ok against citizens here at home.
Conveniently, the gas is really effective at obscuring the source of projectiles going in the other direction
Less-than lethal. No such thing as nonlethal, just as "bulletproof" doesn't exist. These weapons can and do kill.
Is not enough enough already? Are you really going to allow the trump-regime to get away with even more TERRORISM/WAR on the people? Is it not high time to FULFILL YOUR OATH !?
It’s not Trumps birthday party it’s the Army’s 250ty anniversary

I hope we don't have another Kent State
Los Angeles. June 2025. They protested the abduction and deportation of neighbors, and ICE raids feeling like terrorism in the night. The response? Military force. This isn’t order. It’s intimidation. We don’t scare easy. We organize… We remember.
In 2019, Dilan Cruz was killed when a bean bag round penetrated his skull.* It's insane that those munitions are allowed against protesters, and some officers clearly intentionally target the head. *Bellingcat helped ID the officer who fired the round: www.bellingcat.com/news/2019/12...
June 8th This lawyer has 470 incidents with video…. of police violence. At least 8 people lost eyes. One was wearing high end goggles used for welding. BLM summer 2020 twitter.com/greg_doucett... "Less than Lethal" bullets... www.youtube.com/watch?v=4l8V...
Protesters weren't fighting. They were peaceful. Protesting.

Yeah he's *also* an asshole
Trump is human garbage
replace “less lethal weapons” in your head with “weapons designed to maim”
Thank you for this! (I cover politics and social issues, focusing on fighting fascism and raising awareness about key injustices. Please follow me if interested!)
incremental martial law: iirc, the governor objected to the federalization of Arkansas's National Guard that would empower the racial integration of the high school in Little Rock. Eisenhower authorized it anyway, and today, I suspect, most USAns would say that Ike made the correct decision.
Protesters weren’t fighting! WTH? They were peacefully protesting. Choose language carefully so as to not mislead people. ESPECIALLY NOW.
They were def fighting. Clips all over X confirmed in Kick livestreams too people throwing rocks and others being aggressive towards agents
Agents?
says the obvious bot account. Go back to x and share your lies there with your own kind.
I’m sure there were plenty of people there with orders to begin violence. Too many people will go right along, once they’ve done what they were deployed to do. Witnesses will only see “violent protestors,” of course, as intended.
Well, this changes everything.
…because this is new? According to whom?
I'm kidding. The information changes nothing.
“There’s something happening here…”
They can definitely be fatal! When I lived in Boston a young woman was brutally killed when a rubber bullet hit her in the head. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing...
Especially when said officers intentionally aim for the head and face
I've seen them referred to as "less lethal" the past couple of days.
Trump keeps talking about “paid protesters” but don’t you think at this point they’d have a SINGLE receipt? They don’t. And they never will.
We in Boston remember the police killing an innocent woman with a less-lethal round
Wear safety glasses! Protect the eyes!
Rubber bullets ? speak to the people of the bogside in Derry about the use of rubber bullets on unarmed civilians
They are only relatively safe if used properly. US police never use them properly. Also, they are Steel bullets with a rubber coating. There are no rubber bullets.
What and when will Trumpists have their Riechstag moment?
About four years ago.
They’re very painful AND WE CAN ALL BUY THEM!
Trump’s Dangerous Decision to Suppress Anti-ICE Protests With Troops theintercept.com/2025/06/08/t...
We need to start thinking about and planning for a #GeneralStrike. No one in the street. No one purchases anything (plan ahead and stock up) No one goes to work. Shutdown the economy. It’s the only non-violent card we have left to play.
Well nobody is talking about the Trump/Musk feud anymore
Well nobody is talking about the Trump/Musk feud anymore.
The protesters were fighting? Doesn't sound non violent.
@radiofreeameri.ca @derspiegel.bsky.social Watching @cnn.com this unnecessary show of force feels more like a country under military rule. I feel like #trump's inciting violence & looking for a reason to take a #BrownLife to set an example. #TrumpsAmerica #California #Protest #Disgusting
And while we’re at it, here’s our guide on how to best protect yourself at a protest.
Awesome - Thanks!

And what do we do when the military starts attacking us on Trump’s order? I give it a week. The No Kings protests will be bloody, I predict.
Thx a bunch! 📌
So a bunch of protesters fought Police and entered a federal building... I guess they will get pardons and cabinet positions within the administration now.
I like how they included a bit about people who decide protesting isn't for them as well as those that can't go protest and what they can do.
Excellent work! It’s noticed, respected and appreciated.
📌
Great advice but, please everyone, be aware of this latest authoritarian move from Trump. 👇👇 www.themirror.com/news/us-news...
The citizens aren’t afraid to not wear masks because they are doing nothing wrong. ICE and fake ICE wear masks because they are committing crimes.
for the love of god stop using that shit-ass generative AI slop sign every time you cover Trump protests.
The image is from Getty but I take it you mean the protestor used an AI generated image for their poster.
Yeah. That monstrosity has like seven fingers on its left hand.

As the protests escalate in LA, WIRED is also covering what the agency has been doing in the shadows. Recently, ICE quietly rescinded guidance that advised agents conducting courthouse raids to take steps to avoid violating state and local laws while carrying out civil immigration arrests.
Terrorist organization
ICE is also paying software company Palantir $30 million to provide the agency with “near real-time visibility” on people self-deporting from the United States, according to a contract justification published in a federal register. The tool would also help ICE choose who to deport.

Criminals doing Criminal stuff!!!
Palantir owned by Peter Theil
On November 6, 2024, hours after news outlets declared that Donald Trump had been elected the next president of the United States, ICE posted a notice asking companies to submit plans for how they would expand ICE’s system of ankle monitors, GPS trackers, biometric check-in technology.
📌
What could possibly go wrong?
I feel FURY. #EndPalantir!
Whom: the direct object of this blatantly illegal “macho” performance to deprive people of their right to due process.
Mayor Karen Bass in LA noted that none of the former immigration rules/processes were being followed by Trump. Like not allowing detained people to have access to lawyers who are on the scene to offer help.
I would add waving a Israel flag is the best protection you can get! You can scream anti-Semitism....
There comes a time when one must ask the guard to join us. Defy this criminal fed.
Wearing all black is horrible idea. That's what the anarchists wear. They're the ones attacking police. In LA, wear your local team gear. Lakers. Dodgers. Angels. Rams. Galaxy. LAFC (white kit). Trojans. Bruins. It's all good. Show your local pride. Or wear something in light colors.

Remember this : WHEN the trials come, "I was only following orders" will NOT save you.
This, sadly, seems to be asking people who aren't physically strong to stay home: If you aren't comfortable with potentially physically intervening, shielding vulnerable protesters from police violence, and listening more than you speak, your efforts to be an ally are likely better spent elsewhere.

If nonlethal can cause harm. I can only imagine what harm lethal weapons can produce.
Absolutely. We’ve seen this elsewhere too. In France, during the Yellow Vest protests, police used “less-lethal” weapons like rubber bullets and flashbang grenades. Dozens lost eyes. Some were hit in the face on purpose. 1/2
A recent ARTE documentary shows how policing has become militarized—even against citizens demanding social justice. These weapons are not safe. They are just less accurate ways to silence dissent. 2/2
Those weapons were meant to be used in place of lethal weapons, but they have instead reduced the threshold for shooting. They bring more violence, not less.
I agree completely!
Only FOX appears to be reporting live rn. Christina Coleman claims that ppl detained today are the worst of the worst. Holman has names but no names are being provided.
I'm watching it live. There was no violence from protesters when authorities started attacking them. There is no doubt that the govt is purposely escalating this.
They’re also firing at people stuck in traffic jams that ice created! People who are trapped in their cars witnessing their abductions. They’re monsters and need to be prosecuted.
ICE blocked traffic. People stuck in the traffic jam caused by ICE, sitting in their cars, were fired on with tear gas, because ICE saw them watching. They had to get out of their cars to breath. ICE saw them recording & fired more gas - injuring and then arresting people. ICE incited the violence.
I have one from my 6 counties reporting days; it weighs a quarter of a pound. Size compared to an actual quarter.
National guard is using bear-mace on protesters. I just watched them do it 2 mins ago.
There is a British photographer set to undergo emergency surgery who was injured by ICE yesterday

If you're taking part in protests organise the way the Hong Kongers did. There's loads on line. Umbrellas can stave off a rubber bullet
And we also present: bsky.app/profile/n1gh... Please file a complaint in a timely fashion. NEPA violations are no small matter.
bsky.app/profile/n1gh... From the Ministry of Petty, we present:
Appreciate your reporting on this. But please don't call it "tear gas." Those chemical weapons (more than 1 kind) can cause more than tears and eye irritation - they can cause nausea, dizziness, mood changes, irregular bleeding in women, nosebleeds, and much more.
My friend caught a stray in Oakland during George Floyd protests and lost his eye, stay safe
A few years ago, Boston police killed a Canadian student by shooting a rubber bullet into her eye.
They also shot and hit reporters.
www.wsws.org/en/articles/...
There are those of us who will risk death for this democracy and will not be intimidated by rubber bullets or gas.
Not “fighting against ICE raids” - “PROTESTING against ICE raids.” This language matters.
Exactly
Yes journalists need to be careful how they frame this to the American people!
💯
In '04 a girl was killed in Boston celebrating g after the Red Sox won the World Series.
Yeah, we have to abolish the police and DHS and start over. Otherwise this country will never be about freedom. But I doubt this country survives... every institution is broken.

Thank you!
In Paramount, ICE "agents" also shot smoke bombs at cars in a traffic jam (which ICE created) and when people started to exit their cars, ICE "detained" them (yes, even citizens).
They shot a woman in the head at close range with a rubber bullet and refused to call an ambulance.
They are described as "less than lethal" because non-lethal is factually incorrect. People die from "less than" munitions all the time.
They’re not “nonlethal” or “less than lethal” they are “less lethal.”
bsky.app/profile/marz...
This is a result of decades of the "news" stations pitting Americans against Americans. They are shaping Trump's new reality. They lie for him, they scorn for him, they persuade for him. They twist our reality in this nation. They are not news.
Remember, if you throw a tear gas canister back at them, it's assault with a deadly weapon.
In 2020 there were countless instances of rubber bullets being deliberately shot at people's eyes and genitals. A woman next to me was deliberately shot in the breast from five feet away by LAPD. We were holding signs and chanting, nothing more.
Stop calling them Rubber Bullets and call them by their official name Baton Rounds.

Protest calmly do not fall into the violence trap it will only give Trump more power!
