A lot of them don't live in reality. Their only real lense on the world outside their own communities is the ever-growing array of propaganda networks that carefully curate what they see and hear. Doesn't excuse it, but as with Brexit, I think a lot of them didn't think he'd do this.

And they were taught to hate and ignore the people who tried to tell them. And many are too spiteful, sadistic, and incurious to actually investigate and think about it until it affects them personally. I may be a little angry about it.

I think folks heard, but some didn't quite understand, what was to be unleashed. Reading comprehension isn't their strongest suit.
