White person discovered it after an unnamed Native American told them about it. They just say it right out loud. Colonialism in science is wild.

Anna Pierce Hobbs Bixby is credited by the American medical community with having identified white snakeroot as the cause of the illness. Allegedly, she was told about the plant's properties by an elderly Shawnee woman she befriended, after which Bixby conducted tests to observe and document evidence.

We can´t all just go out and find an elderly Shawnee woman, to get information. So having it tested and documented, makes it availabel for everyone. If you do the science and you write the paper, it´s your name that will be used. You should know that, as a doctor?

The difference between science and not science, and therefore who made more contributions to a discovery, is right in front of us in the last eight words of the first paragraph. Shawnees were aware but Bixby gave us evidence and knowledge to ALL of us. This is a nonsensical controversy.

Classic. Like the European 'explorers' in Africa being guided by locals.
