Different cards have different rules, I guess. Mine is just a straight 1% cash back. I love the simplicity. I don't need to spend a lot of money, or track points, or anything. If I spend money, I get 1% credit applied to my balance.

i am a simple cat with simple banking needs ๐
my card has three "cash back" tiers, lets me pick which one I want, never changes them on me, and doesn't have an annual fee. I set the most cash back on food and 2nd most on gas, forget it exists for a year, and then on my birthday use the accumulated points to pay half of that month's bill.
it's easy, straightforward, basically the opposite of an adhd tax because the bonus grows the longer I forget it exists, and uh frankly I recommend it. Definitely over using a debit card please people stop with the debit cards I'm tired of filing disputes for people lol
This, basically. And I recognize that if cash back cards as a whole didn't exist, merchant fees *might* be lower, and retail prices *might* follow by being slightly lower as a result. *might* But since they do exist, and other people use them, it's free money for me to use as well.
more people using the cards = more opportunities for people to carry a balance that they can charge interest on, I'm sure the latter exponentially outweighs the former
as a former bank employee I'll accept some questions lol
I think the offset is that the interest is high but since I've never carried a balance I've never paid interest so the rate is kind of irrelevant.
