Imagine the carnage if everybody felt free to use deadly force to enforce the law as he understood it. Imagine the impossibility of the work of a cop trying to uphold the law, if he had to stop and explain himself and his actions to anybody who might be witnessing them. This would be anarchy.
Which is exactly why I was getting trolled over my opposition to the suggestion. Some people love Anarchy, because they're psychopaths who've love to see the whole world burn, just so that they could watch and laugh. But the rest of us need to know better, including the governor.
"Which is exactly why I was getting trolled over my opposition to the suggestion." That, and the fact that the lead troll was an obvious MAGA. He was somebody who would love the idea of Gov. Pritzker setting himself up for a fall and getting Illinois and Chicago devastated in the process.
There's a lot of Hate and Evil in that movement. I linked to his bleet, before blocking him. If you look at it, you might see that there are two replies to it, one of which is hidden, because it's mine.
But the other is from somebody who blocked me before posting dog whistle: "He’s not even from here." That would be @ blowen . bsky . social. One only need look at my profile photo to see what that was about. No, that's not be in the photo, that's a stock photo. I don't do face reveals online.
It's a safety issue. The photo, however, is not a total mismatch. As I mentioned in one of my early bleets, my family is multiracial. bsky.app/profile/chic... "Not from here" is code for "not White" or "not White enough." MAGA has had a solid racist component to it, from the beginning.
There are more than a few blatant neo-Nazis in that movement, and there have been, at least since 2016. The Asian bashing by the MAGAs has been out of control on TwitterX for weeks, with dogpiling and slurs being directed users of Asian descent. Team Trump has been showing its true face.
A large part of America seems to think that's wonderful, but Chicago doesn't. Our area has been culturally and racially diverse for a long time, and have loved its own diversity. In some of our cases, quite literally.
The diversity isn't an abstract for us, something that we experience when we go out to eat. It's a friends and family members. What sort of uncle would I be, if I were sad about the births of my nieces and nephews?
Why sort of husbands would my brothers be, if they wished that their wives had never been where they could have met them? This is the real reason why MAGA hates Chicago. This is the real reason why a MAGA troll would encourage us to do things that would end in disaster.
They know that they can't set up death camps. They don't have the firepower to do it. But if we can get ourselves killed, then as far as they're concerned, mission accomplished. The bad news for them is that we're not as dumb as they are. We're not going to take the bait.
