love to be film faculty at a university whose tech office deems dvd-bluray obsolete +unilaterally removes all such equipment from classrooms with no notice to nor consult w instructors. def true that nothing worth teaching in film history is unavailable on streaming def they do this to bio labs

It's a terrible idea regardless but also does the school pay for streaming services? So many streamers have IP address "no sharing" nonsense now I would imagine it's a ridiculous complication. Are faculty expected to have a campus specific account?

I lectured a class at a CUNY school in which all the films available to show in classes were stored locally on the school’s server. It was an absurd system.

Sympathies. I spend quite a bit of time explaining that just because something is available through a commercial streaming site, doesn't mean the Library can get access to it. And even with a good range of academic streaming suppliers, there are just some things you can't get.

Timely. We just had some faculty wanting to show some film that was on YouTube, except YT yanked it out (likely copyright owner complained). We had to fork out few hundred bucks to get them the streaming for their class. But that is another story.

it only "has" these if your school has the expensive Kanopy license. Our school buys individual streaming films on Kanopy.
