Use the library almost daily albeit in digital form via Libby for audiobooks, magazines etc. So convenient and free!

I’d love to go get a library card but the library in my town decided that they should close for two weeks between Christmas and New Years. Guess they can’t handle the kids who would come because they aren’t I school those two weeks.
I'm not sure why they would do that so I don't want to rush to judgement, but it seems a very poor decision. Those 2 weeks could introduce a lot of kids to the wonders their local library contains.
Exactly.
When you have no money or other resources, the library for me was a savior. I could us the computers. Internet. DVDs. Music and books. I could learn as much or little as I wanted. And ask the librarians for help. 😇🙏🏼
I have my card! 😉
I love libraries as much as the next person, but until they remove the methheads shooting up at the front door, I’m not going back in.
My New Years Resolution. I moved to another county and my 50 year old card stopped working!!
The best thing I did in 2023 was obtain a library card from the Teton County Wyoming kibrary. I live in Teton County Idaho. I use the Kanopy streaming service. I check out ebooks. P.S. Kanopy is the best streaming servuce.
Best book I've read of late? I found it in the free shelf in a neighboring county, where I couldn't use my card. 'Will In The World ' How Shakespeare became Shakespeare.. Same author wrote on Shakespeare for Norton Anthology of Literature. Shakespeare fun to read about????
I'm actually a volunteer of our local library, does that count ?
Shortly after I moved here, while taking my son for a walk, I discovered a library branch within walking distance. I was super excited and got a library card right away. ❤️
Do it. A library card is like getting a pass to the entire world. Topeka, Kansas library one of the best around. Helpful staff, great resources, always lots of events going on.
Sadly, my local library is now run completely by volunteers, who couldn't even register me on the system. As a former public librarian, this cut deep.
Thank you.
When a person goes to a library to get a card and look around at all that’s available (books, magazines, movies, music and more) they’ll be using that card on day one.
In some cities, the amount of budget for the library is also based on number of active library cards. Even if you don't use it often, ask your library how often they deactivate or purge cards. Normally, it is every 2 yrs. Try to use it once to keep it active during that time. If not 4 you, for kids.
They are definitely still relevant and are keeping up with the times.
You can borrow books on your phone.
Yes I do.
I use mine in Irvine, CA. I also drop of books no longer need.
good post we have to remind the world that Liberals are still relevant and smart just like regular people I am POLITICAL ANALYST so I know
Yes movies books and computer at the library
I use my library constantly. For the last 60 years driving and walking to the library is a soothing, enjoyable activity that I will do until I cannot.
I’m on a library board in OH. Active cardholders and more importantly, circulation, affect funding. Get a card and USE your card. I painted these at our free art class at the library.
Was there today reading The Calculating Stars 🌟 🤩
I borrowed a book yesterday from my local library.
I am a Trustee of the DeMary Memorial Library in Rupert ID. Libraries offer so much more than books. We are a small Library but have a computer lab, and have hot spots, DVDs, board games and much more for check out. Plus an extensive ebook selection. Please support your local Libraries.
Over 60 years 👍 I love libraries 🙀
I love my library!!
And if you can't get to the library in person, try the Libby app and borrow audiobooks. The more you do, the more they'll want to stock.
We are a province of less than 180,000 people. I mostly use e-books from my library.
I love my local library. I especially like reading ebooks on Libby.
Our 5-🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 rated library in Akron OH has marvelous auditorium. Because of ASCPL’s free space our pro dance company has been able to present free performances for all community, barrier-free accessible culture. And the same at Beatley Library Reading Garden in Alexandria VA! Libraries ROCK!!!📚💛
I am encouraged by the fact that every time I put a hold on a newer, popular book online for my local library, there are long queues for the books. Lots of people are using our libraries. Darn it! 😜
I go to my library twice a week. I bring my grandkids. I’ve always loved libraries.
Libraries don’t judge when you check out 7 books on Ted Bundy after reading 3 on different cults all within two months.
Cities that invest in people, invest in libraries. They are a reflection of how leaders take care of the community. Some are architectural wonders, like the Central Library in Calgary, Alberta. My library card is gold.
Just got a manga from mine earlier this month, so expensive online but was able to get it right near me for free!
when was that even a sentence, let alone a myth... #PERISHTHATTHOUGHT!
Libraries are also one of the last bastions of community- sometimes they are a safe haven, sometimes a much needed escape, or teasing creativity out of young and old. I'm proud of our little library and proud to work there 💜
We use ours all the time. So much more interesting than tv!
Counting the days until our main library reopens from renovating with bond money. Using the north outreach until then, but so limiting. Got a card when I retired, and I have loved my time there exploring.
I would be great if we had one in our little town.
I got my library card yesterday!! I went to be able to use a computer to print but I also checked out 4 books on career development, homesteading, leadership, and herbal medicine!! My library lets me check out 30 books at a time and has a free online Library!!
Jerry Rubin nominated a pig called Pigasus for president. When Pigasus was arrested, Mrs. Pigasus took over his election campaign. I learned that from an exhibit in my local library ❤️
Have a maga relative in their 80s & never in a library their entire life! That’s the caliber of people who thinks libraries aren’t important! Ask those who can’t afford a computer-how important the library is to them. Askme-on SS & can’t buy books anymore! A lifetime of free books for the borrowing!
Order what looks good online them browse once they arrive. Thanks Dallas Public Library!
Nearly 80, love you internet but always renew my library card👍
This is good. But, I’d also like to add to support local bonds that provide much needed funds for libraries.
I foolishly ticked books as an interest when I signed up to Bluesky. Unfortunately all the phoney book lovers are obsessed with municipal libraries and cards, even if they don’t need one. Don’t hear of anyone actually reading a book. Middle class angst.
I am so happy to live in the lib(rary) city of Portland, Oregon. I can't think of a single instance when I searched for a popular book and they didn't either have 20 in stock or 20 on order. Sadly, my branch just closed...for a $26 million renovation!
I have a card. I use ebooks primarily because I am mostly housebound.
Bonus points if you request your library to buy books that you cant afford/on top of a purchase to help out an author.
Let’s not forget about libraries “special collections” and how rich they are in history. They can include artifacts such as papers, photos, documents, etc. Great sources of material for researching!
If they no longer exist where does my librarian daughter go when she claims to be at work 🙄
My local library is very much into Drag Queen Story Hour and all the woke bullshit. Plus it's full of dangerous lunatics trying to avoid freezing to death on the streets. It's not a place for families anymore. The library is anti-family. Consequently, my local library can fuck off and die.
You find friends in libraries
I Do
Today for New Year’s Eve spending it with my mom in my old neighborhood…across the street from my 1st public library. In the rare moments that I pretend to meditate that’s the place I use to get zen. Just walking past it makes me calm and happy.
Also: lots of libraries let you sign up for an E-card remotely so you can use their digital resources, like audio & E-books and more! My local libraries also have "cultural passes" to check out, which gives 2 free entries into a lot of museums & attractions. Support & explore your local library!!
Libraries will make a come back if they can hold on long enough. People are waking up to the fact that physical media is better than digital.
Absolutely!!! They have fucking video games, and CDs and DVDs, and Audiobooks, guys!!! Also they have the Hyperion Cantos for free!
Would be nice if they'd update their reference books. Seriously. I went to their Careers section and all I found was half a shelf of books none more current than 2003. Librarians have to up their game too.
My local library is a busy spot.
Yes we do!
most of them are digital ones...
Will do
Use it, learn something.
Got mine yesterday 👍
Love it for ebooks
I used to take my daughters to the library all the time when they were growing up. Fast-forward to today, where my oldest is 18 and starting her 3rd year in college. The younger one is not that much far behind. I can thank our library for awakening their love of learning that got them this far.
I have my library card on my Keychain and in my wallet! I also have the lobby app on my phone so I can check out books and mags online and read digitally. I'm really bad at returning materials on time and I don't have a car. The library is essential!
Teachers need to take a class field trip to their local library 📚 Some kids have actually never been there or understand how it works
Funding is based members! NYC sign up here - www.nypl.org/help/library...
📚📖 Books have become an endangered species!🤨
The only place you don't have to pay to get in and exist.
I just renewed mine last year! It's good until way after I'm dead! 50 years!
😂😍📚
Its not just a library. it's a meeting place where you could be heard.
Are you kidding? I always have library books at my house.
I love the Seattle and King County library systems ! Use various branches weekly and a lot of its online services!
Just renewed mine.
Can't even remember 🤣🤣
You are spot on. Thanks for telling others. mbm
I use my public library a lot. I particularly enjoy reading ebooks on my Kindle. We must keep our libraries open and thriving!
I’m curious who is saying libraries aren’t relevant. They are very popular among people I know
Children's libraries are especially great. I read books on a device, but for my son its real books, bright picture books

I’ve been using my library card and Libby to get audio books and e-books. I still take my kids there every couple of weeks to stock up on manga, science/maker books, and comics. We also take full advantage of the seed library and occasionally check out a telescope for camping trips.
Getting a library card demonstrates how many citizens your library serves and enables it to get state/federal money to buy books. It also shows your community how well supported it is.
It's still my favorite and most reliable way to look up patent records and old newspaper articles.
I love my library system! Even if I don’t use the physical bricks and mortar version very often, I still use their online resources on the weekly 📚❤️
Use mine every week
Love my library card(s). Love ebooks My Kindle and my Libby account go everywhere with me.
Just recently renewed my library card after years of not using it. I’m excited to get back into reading and happy to support the Pikes Peak Library District.
We will really be left ignorant if we loose our libraries.
Cute! 😂
Why? They are obsolete and expensive. The money could be more well spent funding afterschool programs and summer camps and internet access for those who have none.
Lousacc library in Anchorage is a nice library
My kids have grown up in the library, story times and puppet shows, countless books. We are there at least once a week. Passports and voting. They hand out diapers once a month, they feed the kids a snack, everyday. It’s one of the best places filled with the best employees.
And if you feel slightly less than enthused at least follow 'Orkney Library'. They are some gifted magical posters ....
People forget how valuable libraries are. Libraries in my area also offer digital books that can be sent to your kindle & audible for those who prefer digital/audio books
There are, “nearly 117,000 school, public, and academic outlets in the U.S.—most of them within 2.1 miles of the average resident” (Hall, 2021 p.485). Additional research shows, “Nearly 97% of people lived within the service area of one of America’s 9,057 public libraries” (Pelczar et al., 2021).
We just visited a local zoo by using a free family pass we borrowed from our local library. No cost to us, free outing with animals.
