You don't believe that I know about the Holodomor? That I loathe Moscow? I think Stalin betrayed everyone, & that Brezhnev was a stupid racist. I hate Putin. I have Ukrainian friends, & I want to see Ukraine stay independent. I just know the difference between all that & city grocery stores.

I don't know how he understands that. But remember that New Yorkers live alongside the New York Stock Exchange and an absurdly wealthy subculture. Is seizing that wealth pragmatic? Probably not. Is it intelligible rhetoric to the poor in the shadow of billionaires? I think so.
