But manifest destiny WAS genocide
But manifest destiny WAS genocide
Manifest destiny was not genocide. Sorry.
I've read a bunch of the primary documents by the US government and settlers, especially for Nevada and California and it was definitely genocide and clearly articulated as such.
Spent 3 days in 1991 spooling through microfilm of the correspondence from Nevada field officers for the CIA (Commission on Indian Affairs), wrote a book in part about the 1851 US military incursion into what we call Yosemite, know the thousands of unmarked Mission graves, etc. Definitely genocide.
Me, 1994: "In the 1860s and 1870s, the Territorial Enterprise, Nevada's main newspaper, argued for "exterminating the whole race," abolishing treaties and published an editorial whose headline is an early source of the phrase "the only good Indian is a dead Indian."
More from that book: In a message to the legislature of the new state, [Gold Rush era] Burnett said, "That a war of extermination would continue to be waged until the Indian race should become extinct, and that it was beyond the power or wisdom of men to avert the inevitable destiny."
The new state that would be California. James Savage, who led the US military into Yosemite: "If the Indians make war on the white men, every tribe will be exterminated; not one will be left."
In The Little House on the prairie books, multiple characters said “The only good Injun is a dead injun” — enough that she remembered that into adulthood and put it in her memoirs as though it wasn’t controversial
It was several genocides in fact, though mostly smaller in scale than industrial genocides today
This for example is a definite genocide en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_...
Another certain genocide en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridge_...
Anther genocide, not far from me en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marias_...
Long drawn out genecide actually read up
And now you lost all credibility.
Concerted campaigns of ethnic cleansing, including concentration camps and forced marches. Programs to alienate children from their culture. Wholesale massacres. Forced sterilization. What more is necessary to qualify as a genocide?
They didn’t do it fast enough I suppose
Bless your heart.
Man I don't know a single thing about my grandma's culture because the residential school physically beat it out of her to the point she was terrified to talk about it, and she is one of the "lucky" ones who was "only" abducted as a child instead of outright murdered. Try again.
yeah we shouldn't be defunding education
It’s ok to be wrong but they called them parasites and wanted to kill them all.
What is your definition of genocide, then?
Do any of you people EVER admit when you are woefully painfully disasterously wrong?
I've seen it once maybe?
