It’s okay for a nation to live up to its highest ideals even in the face of its harsh history.
Again, I’m very ambivalent about “progressive patriotism”, but there’s a flag-shagging position that emphasises all those so-called British values of tolerance, diversity, yada yada yada. This is, in fact, the way to resist the “divisive” use of the flag that Starmer insists he rejects!
