Made this map earlier today. Pretty enjoyable to take in the geography based on the temperatures tbh. www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2025...

A spidery heat wave in the Pac NW and SW Canada. Other than the hot plains of eastern Washington etc the heat is largely elevation based. You can make out the mountains where temperatures turn cooler in addition to the hot readings snaking along valleys etc.

I love how these kinds of maps offer the chance to highlight compressional heating in the valleys.
